Veil Dilemma

January 25th, 2007 @ 11:31 am by Mrs. Peach

During the winter holidays when I was at home, I went veil shopping. I only had time to visit two places: David’s Bridal and Sarah’s Bridal (where I bought my dress). Although the veils at Sarah’s Bridal were pretty, they barely had any 1 layer veils- what I was looking for. David’s Bridal had more variety and I ended up falling in love with this one:

I love how it flows, how light it is, and I especially adore the small scalloped edges! The only problem… it was out of my budget. But then… dun dun dun! Ebay saves the day. Sort of. I found a seller who had once posted the veil, NEW, at a great price but the bid was over. But I thought perhaps I was in luck because looking at the bidding history, there was none. So I emailed the seller and he/she offered it for a higher price (because the retail value had gone up) but still a good price nonetheless. So what’s the dilemma?

I dunno, all of a sudden I’m have feelings of doubt whether this is the right veil for my dress. The last I remembered, I loved the way it looked and felt… but looking at my dress and the details of the veil, I’m not entirely sure (taken by ebay seller):

My dress has no seed beading like the edges or the few flowers scattered on this veil. My dress is simple with one peice of adornment: a brooch on the side. And I’ll remind you that my jewely I have decided on is pearls.

So do you think it really matters? I feel like you can’t really see the details too much. Just enough to add to my entire ensemble (since my dress is simple) but not enough to feel like it clashes with my dress. But yeah, just wanted some more opinions I guess. ^_^

Maybe I’m just commitment-phobic when it comes to making purchases. I’m the kind of person who has to explore ALL her options before making a choice and I guess to some extent I feel like I haven’t been able to do that for veils. But then again, I don’t have the time either and my wedding is drawing near! 2 months. Eeek!

Anyhooo, enough babbling… I leave you with some pictures of me in my dress (pre-alteration) trying on this veil:

ps. Oh yeahhh, contrary to popular belief, my dress is not the same one as Mrs. Ladybug’s. It’s very similar but like I said, unless the Amsale dress was on sale, I couldn’t afford it. ^_^ keke. Mine’s from Moonlight Bridal, their tango line.

your dress is beautiful! And so is that veil. Because your dress is so unadorned, I think the extra details on the veil are perfect.

I say buy it! Plus, usualyl you can return things from eBay if you send them back within a couple of days. Just check with the seller.

I totally agree with cubangirl - it’s a great fit. Besides, your gut is almost always right, if you really wanted it then, you’ll be happy you got it when it’s on and together. Trust your instincts!

I have to warn you—I bought that veil from Davids Bridal and it fell apart. The beading had actually fallen off before I even got it home (it wasn’t in its origional bag). They ended up letting me return it, but I’m afraid to even take it out and unfold it now. Just be careful of what condition its in and then don’t touch it before your wedding day.

i agree with the others. your dress is fairly simple so a dressed up veil would be a perfect compliment. check with the seller about return possibilities and go for it.

The style of your dress is similar to mine! :-) I think that veil would go really well with your dress. Since your gown is simple, the small embellishments on the veil would complement it and glam it up.

just a question about your dress, does it have a train? if so, how long is it?

Awww, you look so pretty in your dress already, even before alterations! I think a veil with a little bit more detail, like the one you picked, is a fine choice for your dress. I’m looking at a similar one, actually, with the scalloped edges — so pretty but I haven’t been able to find it to try on yet. We’ll see! The length of that one on you is perfect, though!

April- the train is supposed to be mermaid train, but because the dress is so long on me, I decided to leave it a little longer. If you look at Moonlight destination bridal line- Tango, mine is TG9297. Here it is: http://site375.mysite4now.com/moonlightbdl/frontend/proddetail.asp?pn=TG9297&co=10000006
Okay, here they call it cocktail train.

veilshop.com has a similar veil without the embroidery for $55. You can add various details; it might be worth checking out the different options they have.
