Previously I posted about the point, cost, and use of wedding favors. My take on it was why waste money on things that possibly weren’t even going to be taken? On the other hand, I know there are a few members of my family who would be a little upset if they didn’t have something to keep from our wedding. Not that I’m angry about that - I know my aunt (who has paid for a lot of our wedding things, some even before our engagement!) has kept every single favor from every single wedding, anniversary party and birthday party she’s ever been to. Along those lines, she has been dreaming about collecting one from our wedding.
So with my aunt in mind, I’ve decided to do favors. Not really expensive ones, but I’m thinking I can probably get away with spending less than a hundred dollars for all the favors. I’m going to go with the traditional jordan almonds. My only problem was the colors because it’s hard to find them in colors that aren’t pink, green, white and yellow. I figured I could get a yellow, and maybe trick people into thinking that it was either gold or ivory. So this was the route I was going until I found jordanalmonds.com. They have the most color and flavor options I’ve ever seen.
The almonds come in Fine (90 almonds per pound) at $3.49/pound, Extra Fine (100 almonds per pound) at $4.99/pound and Super Fine (125 per pound) at $6.94/pound. The great thing about these jordan almonds is the thickness of the candy coating. It has a thin layer, which leaves more room for the almond. Many other places have a thick candy shell with a teeny almond. I’d rather enjoy the almond with the thinner coating. After all, I’d think the most expensive item is the almond, right?
The colors range from classic white, assorted, reds, blues of all kinds and the ivory I was craving. JordanAlmonds.com also has chocolate almonds with a thin layer of dark chocolate under the candy shell. Can you say TASTY?
Snowy Chocolate: $41.00 for 5 pounds
Here’s the autumn mix Mr. Kiwi would like us to get. $29.99 per pound.
Robin’s Egg Blue for those cute nests!
They have flavored ones as well! These are cappuccino!

Also, if you want sugar free, they have them as well.
The tradition is five almonds per person, signifying five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. We are most likely going to attach that somewhere, but we’re still unsure about the containers we’ll use. So, I figured that if we buy the ultra fine (125 almonds per container), we can get 25 people done with one container. We’re hoping to get 6 pounds, but I believe they go from 5 to ten pounds. Either way, it isn’t nearly as expensive as I had thought.
I just found this poem to attach too:
Jordan Almonds for Thee
Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat
To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.
Five wishes for the new husband and wife –
Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!
Love it!
Just an idea for those of you who are also contemplating the favor idea! Any one else going the traditional route?
