Flour + Egg + Milk Can Be So Yummy

January 26th, 2007 @ 5:34 pm by Mrs. Orange

Last Saturday, Mr. Orange and I drove out to Lindenhurst, Long Island to a local bakery called Black Forest Bakery to pick up our sample cake. Our catering hall has an outside contract with the bakery, and included in the contract is a free 6 inch cake with frosting, cake and filling of your choice. We chose yellow cake with raspberry and white chocolate mousse and ivory whipped cream. It was so yummy…moist, dense and not overly sweet. Raspberry mousse was perfect and the white chocolate mousse was o-k. I didn’t taste much of the “white-chocolatey-ness.

On the day of the wedding, the cake should look like this:

What type of cake/filling/frosting will you have?

alternating layers of carrot [his favorite] and either marble or chocolate [my faves]. the kicker would be to find a baker who can make the very top one half carrot and half chocolate/marble. two halves of a cake stuck together…not intermixed. eww. lol

Hi Miss Orange!
Another Riviera bride here and I wanted to ask about the cake contract. This is the first time I’ve heard about Black Forest providing a sample cake. What’s the procedure? Did someone at the Riviera tell you about it or did you call Black Forest, etc? The cake sounds yum!
Thanks!

Lemon cake with a Guanabana filling (a tasty tropical fruit that is translated to soursop, horrible name and it’s really not that sour)

That cake looks beautiful! (And sounds yummy) Do they provide the flower decoration too? Or is it only the plain white cake? Cuz if it’s included, that’s a pretty nice “free” cake!!

HEY! That’s where MY cake is coming from! Our hall also has a contract with them. (We’re on Long Island.) We need to talk to them, acutally, to decide what we’re getting, since my mom also wants to make at least one cake, and she’s gotten back into her old hobby of making sugar flowers. So she’s going to come with us. I’m very happy to hear that the cake is tasty! :)
