Return Address Embossers

January 26th, 2007 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Lily

Yesterday a reader asked me if I knew of a way to add a return address to wedding invitations without handwriting or using a rubber stamp. Interestingly enough, I have been hunting for a good return address embosser for our thank you cards. We didn’t get the return address leterpressed on that piece because we are hoping to move after the wedding. Embossing still seems formal to me and is much easier than writing our address on every envelope.

I have come across a few embossers, but nothing I love love love. Maybe you all can chime in with suggestions? I’m looking for no frills, inexpensive. This is what I have come up with thus far:

The pocket embosser from XStamper for $29.95:

The Deluxe Desk Embosser with Address from The Corporate Connection for $32.99

Have you all found better embossers out there?

My question is, with an embossed return address on the back flap, can the post office machines read that?? That’s what I’ve been wondering…

We got ours from Wilshire Graphics. WGpress.com I think they’re more expensive than the ones you posted, but I went with them because of all the rave reviews. I

Wilshire Graphic Press is a little more spendy but supposed to work great - http://www.wgpress.com/index.html

I also bought one from Wilshire Graphics and using for several wedding items: programs, napkins, etc. Worked excellent on everything!

What is the correct return address to use on your invitations? Do we put both of our names and just one address? Would that imply that we are living together?

I just blogged about this myself! We used the Mark Maker Personal Embosser (bought it at Cranes on sale for $25) and the results were great! Totally professional looking and clean.

Miss Emerald - the USPS hates it, but it is allowed and they have to honor it.

Graciette - If you’re hosting and paying for the wedding, I would put the address of the one of you that is most likely going to be tracking the RSVP’s etc. No need to put a name at all actually. According to Emily Post its is most formal to not put a name on the return address, no need. The USPS doesn’t require it at all.

I also bought one from Wilshire Graphic Press and I LOVE it! In fact, we both loved it so much we ordered one for my FMIL for her birthday… she loved it too (at least that’s what she told us :o)).

Agree 100% with thistleorchid. Ordered ours (desk model WAY beats the hand-held model) from Michael C Fina and had great success. Used bride’s address without a name. The address plate can be substituted out with another address if you want — multiple plates for multiple addresses, or share with family. We had one invite returned for an outdated address (our fault). Post office had no trouble finding us. One tip is to select a simple font because all those swirlies can make too many loops that can “punch out” (hanging chads…) It works better on nicer quality papers. Can use it for thank yous, and it pays for itself, compared to ordering pre-printed envelopes or writing it out every time.
