Present To Each Other

January 28th, 2007 @ 5:40 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

Mr. Raspberry and I have agreed to set a limit on how much we can spend on each other’s present on the day of the wedding.

I found a picture to give him some inspiration. :) Of course I know I will not be getting this exact ring (as it is $12,000!), but I thought we could see about getting something like it, or having something made.

Mr. Raspberry has given me a little inspiration, but no direction on where to find it…

There is a great shop in Rome that we visited several years ago that sells globes like these. They have a website, but no one in the store speaks English, so I am going to have to get creative and/or start looking in antique shops here. Do you have any other ideas?

What are/did you and your SO do for each other the day of the wedding?

I don’t know your budget- but maybe you could VISIT that shop in Rome :). I’m pretty sure if Joe got me tickets to Italy, I don’t know what I’d do with myself. But if its not that big a budget, I’d go with the globe if that’s his hint, and maybe to make it a little more personal, get it from that shop.

Joe has been hinting at a nice pocketwatch for a while, so I think I’m going to go that route. I never know what he’ll get me, but I’ve been hinting at a new bible with my new name engraved on the leather.

Target just started making a globe like that in their global bazaar:

It’s currently on sale for $35.

If you want something nicer, sometimes costco or sam’s club has a globe in which each country is a different mineral.

Costco certainly has a globe bar, which is kind of cool:

Miss Raspberry, that ring is beautiful! If the globe is meant as “inspiration” rather than as a “this is literally what Mr. Raspberry wants,” you could look into the GeoChron. My FI is obsessed with maps and globes, and the GeoChron is his ultimate dream gift. It’s a flat map that you can hang on the wall, and the cool thing is that light moves over it during the day to illuminate which parts of the world are receiving sunlight at any given point. It starts at about $1600.

The ring is lovely, but Tiffany goes nuts w/the markup on diamond jewelry. My jeweler carries several similar designs for a fraction of the price. Check out dimendscaasi.com and look at the English Collection.
