About Beehive

Beehive

January 30th, 2007 @ 4:31 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • BeeReader is having two friends do readings during her ceremony. Should they be included in the rehearsal dinner as well? And should they be recognized at the wedding by wearing flowers?
  • my wants to know whether you tip for hair and makeup trials, or if it’s only expected day of.
  • LK is only serving beer and wine, plus a champagne toast. What is the formula for buying beer and wine?
  • Lewie is looking for a graphic designer to create custom stds and invites within a budget.
  • Jon70171 is looking for a place in LA/OC that can do Japanese steam perms like the one Mrs. Bee got.

Mrs. Bee… how is your Japanese perm from Jay holding up? Anyone know where I can go to get a Japanese perm like Mrs. Bee got in the LA/OC area?

Lewie,

I would love to work with you to design your custom save-the-dates and invitations.

My website is under construction and should be up by Thursday, but I would love to send you some pictures in the mean time. Feel free to email me at info@hautepapier.com

Thanks!

BeeReader-My readers and guestbook attendants are getting corsages. Most florists have a “cheaper” corsage for helpers. I wanted them to feel like the wedding party, because FI didn’t want 10 BM’s–that’s the only reason they’re not wearing dresses with the BP and standing like a BM. :-)

I didn’t get a corsage for my readers. To me they look very prom-ish and I didn’t want my readers to feel like they had to wear something like that. Our moms and grandmothers got corsages because they really wanted ones.

We also didn’t invite the readers to the rehearsal dinner. We didn’t actually have a rehearsal and since both readers lived in NYC where the wedding was, I didn’t want them to feel like they had to come to this dinner that was all family when they probably had much better things to do with their Friday nights. If they were visiting from out of town I would have invited them.

For invitations, I HIGHLY recommend Maria Garcia Freedberg: http://mycandypaper.wordpress.com. She’s doing my invites for a highly reasonable price AND she’s been fantastic to work with so far.

Inviting readers to the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner is hospitable and helps ensure they know what to do, where to stand, what acoustics to expect, how the lighting is, etc. on W-Day. I feel the rehearsal dinner (and some kind of gift, albeit small or maybe religious/spiritual) is a way to show appreciation to those participating in the wedding.

BeeReader,

I was a reader at my friends’ wedding this past spring, and I was included in the rehearsal and invited to the rehearsal dinner. It helped a lot to know exactly where I’ll be walking, where I needed to stand and my cue to start the reading.

I didn’t, however, get a corsage on the day of. I didn’t mind, though.

Help! Is anyone using a honeymoon registry site? Can you recommend one?

alimir-I’m using Honeyfund. It’s nice because they don’t charge your guests a fee and you can makeup the things that guests will give you. For example, you register for a spa day for $150 and you want 2 of them. You don’t have to actually use the money given to you at the spa, but it makes the gift givers think they’re giving you something instead of just cash! I like the site alot…easy to use.

Lewie I know you’ve gotten a few names already but my girl did exactly what I wanted and she did it for beyond cheap. I mean cheap cheap cheap… and she even did the research to find the best rate on printing for me, etc.
I’ll gladly email you a copy of my save the date that she did if you’d like to see it. seasen1@gmail.com
And her name is Katrina, email me for her contact information if you’re interested!

LK — the best thing you can do is use the calculator on Evite. You can plug in the number of people and even the ratio of heavy drinkers to light drinkers. I served beer and wine and didn’t buy enough wine. I wish I’d known about it before. I went onto the calculator after my wedding and it seemed about right for what we should have bought.

Not everyone does beer and wine only, so this calculator is very useful in getting good information. I’m not sure if you are handling your beer and wine or if you are having a wholesaler or liquor store work it out. If you can bring your own, ask if you can return unopened bottles. THis way it doesn’t matter if you buy too much. Also, ask if the price includes pick up of bottles unopened and opened. That can be a real help, depending on what your hall’s policies are.

we’re using custom-programs, mrs butterfly’s recommendation and adrienne has been great!

There are lots of blogs about girls stuff but I dont remember seeing anything about ringbearers.

If your having ringbearers where will you be getting their outfits? I’m having a hard time finding something with a large selection at a decent price

Where is a good place to start a wedding blog? I want to keep a written account of everything somewhere online, partly so I can post questions and get opinions, and partly so my younger sister will have some guidance when it’s her turn. I want it to have a simple address that people can remember, allow photo posting, and allow comments on posts.

I am thinking of getting married in Costa Rica, but don’t have time to go and look at sites. Any advice about whether this is crazy or whether you had a great experience with a place in Costa Rica. (we are thinking either September 2007 or January 2008) I would be so grateful!!

alimir — If there are any questions about a honeymoon registry you’d like to ask, let me know. Giftpile.com services the fun, practical couple who may not need the traditional gifts (usually for the home) and we don’t charge a percentage (%) fee. Learn more on http://www.Giftpile.com

I really liked your blog! It would be soooo helpful to me if you could find it in your heart to write an article about human hair extensions, Indian hair in particular.
