Yikes, you gals have some pricey engagement rings! I’m not even spending that much on the wedding in total… including all the rings put together! *bug eyes*

2.
Miss Kiwi says:

I’m with you, twelve!! And we haven’t gotten our bands yet, so “I don’t have one” is what I chose. :)

Sam says:

same here, twelvetigers. Wow!

4.
D says:

Wow, there are some high rollers that view this site.

Miss Peach says:

D- i was thinking the same thing!

K says:

Holy crap. I could NOT have Andrew pay that much for a piece of jewelry, and I’d be paranoid about wearing it around.

Yeah, that’s more than my entire wedding will cost.

Laura says:

I came to post the same thing… maybe it’s just because we are still in school and don’t have the money for stuff like that. Some of those rings could have bought me a new car!

Vanessa says:

What about family rings? Mine and my fiance’s were passed down to us. Beautiful and the price is right!

I told my fiance I don’t want a ring that costs more than 1500 $ since I would be afraid to lose it or break it or it would be stolen (I travel to work by trains and sometimes there are strange people on there). We looked at rings together and found a beautiful ring under 1500 $. We saved a lot of money by getting a ring with lots of smaller diamonds instead of one big one.

same here Ali! my fiance and i were realistically thinking about his budget right now.. we just moved out together a couple of months ago and living on your own in the DC area is expensive! he decided that 2k was his budget.. he bought the most gorgeous engagement ring and wedding band for a little over $1500 together. the center stone is 1/4k and the surrounding stones = 1/4k so my e-ring is 1/2k total. wedding band is 1/7k total. seriously EVERYONE i know assumes my e-ring is over 1karat..because if the way it’s set.

i honestly don’t know what i would do if i had a ring that was worth more then everything i owned put together!

My FI used a family stone (his grandma’s), so we only paid for the cost of the setting. I think it was about $600.

Julie says:

I’m one of the supposed “high rollers” I guess — my finance has very close ties with the jeweler, so he was able to get my ring for just under $14,000, but it is valued at well over $20,000… I was definitely really nervous at first wearing it around, but I guess you just get used to it… not to sound spoiled or anything, but while I often gaze at it, my first thought isn’t the value of what I’m walking around with on my finger. I do feel bad that the platinum setting is already rather scratched, but I work in an oncology lab and I am always using my hands and playing with nasty chemicals. I think the reason the cost for mine was so high is that I wanted an asscher cut stone, which is pretty hard to find.

L says:

Dang! Costly rings indeed! I guess in some ways I had secretly wanted some sparkly, very noticeable (but not Uber-big) ring. [I, too, really like Asscher cuts...] But then there’s reality. I work with the homeless, and love a simple lifestyle. I jam my fingers on everything, because I’m a natural klutz. I snag anything that is not completely smooth and flat. And I have short, stubby fingers. Realistically, I should have something simple, down-to-earth, and when calculating mortgages, school loans, and measly salaries, affordable has to be on the list.

To be sure to get something unique and one-of-a-kind, however, J and I went to an arts fair this summer with the intention of finding my ring. We went to every single jewelers’ booth (it felt like at least 40!), and finally found IT at this one booth. It’s a pink tourmaline stone set in sterling silver with little circle brandings all around the band. He and I LOVE it! And the price tag?? Well, let’s just say it’s the equivalent to the nicest dinner he and I would want to have out on the town. Granted, the sterling silver makes it more prone to scratches, tarnishing, and the like, but I plan to have a really cool wedding band, move this to the right hand, and I’m absolutely thrilled with this plan. And couldn’t be more proud of J for allowing us to use the big bucks for our house, for a month-long honeymoon we want, and for cool, intricate bands that we can both have, if we choose.
