January Fitness Check-in

January 31st, 2007 @ 11:31 am by Mrs. Lemon

Alright ladies, my fitness routine might not be super intense, but I’ve started myself into the right groove as I prep for bikini weather this July. While it may take 21-days to start a habit, I think I’ve gotten a few under my belt already.

1. Drinking at least 64 oz. water a day!
If I could, all of my beverages would come from Coffee Bean, but I know that’s not really helping out my fitness goals. Instead of the caffeine, I stocked up on Pure Lemon packets, water bottles and Brita filters. Now, instead of craving juice or coffee, I treat myself to a bottle of Penta or FruitWater instead.

2. Walking to school 3x a week.
I can get to my destination by foot or bus… and both take the same amount of time to reach my destination. I’ve loaded up my iPod shuffle with some rocking tunes and instead of heading for the shuttle, I walk straight up two big hills and speedwalk to class.

3. Oatmeal is my friend.
People keep laughing about how I seem to have it everywhere I go, but it’s helped save me $$$ and my goals in check. Yup - plain ‘ol Quaker oats for breakfast & lunch (along with fruit as a snack), which is semi-boring, but not intended to last forever. It just gets me back into that groove where eating healthy makes me feel healthy.

I also have been plugging my body measurements into sparkpeople weekly. No big changes, but those are the results I’m looking for, not the ones on the scale. If I shared my weight, we’d have a huge Tyra scandal on our hands, and that’s not the point. In fact, I’d be happy if I gained weight through this…since it would mean I put back on some muscle I’ve lost!

January down… five more months to go!

Anybody else want to brag a little about their January success?

I’m getting married in April but my weight hasn’t budged. I’ve been trying to get into shape for 4 months but with the cold, dark NY weather, I make a beeline straight home after work. I have been eating tons of oatmeal and have tried to pick up on weight loss tips here and there. One trainer told me, “Eat like a queen for breakfast, eat like a princess for lunch and eat like a pauper for dinner.” Another one said that people who eat the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner are more likely to lose weight or keep it off than people who eat different foods every day.

I’ve started back up on spark people too, and vowed to weigh myself each week. I haven’t lost anything yet, but i’m already starting to feel better. I’ve been eating much better, which makes me not crave junk food as much anymore. If my calorie count is under my required amount, I treat myself to hot chocolate for dessert. I also drink green tea all day along with regular ice water, and hit the gym about 4 times a week. Spark people is great because it keeps you accountable on how kinds of food you eat… it’s an eye opener.

This is my regiment:

B-Fast:English muffin with a bit of scraped butter on top/small OJ and small coffee with milk and suger

Then at lunch a very healthy Amy’s Organics Macaroni and Soy Cheese with an orange and a cup of tea with sugar.

Dinner: Decaf tea with sugar, lentil soup with dry toast and something decadent but small for desert like tiny piece of cake, m &m’s, a petit fours.

Been workin’ for me!

Drinking that water really helps! Just in doing that for 3 days I’ve already lost 4 pounds! Also, I’m logging my weight every single day and making healthier choices overall, watching protein intake and fruits and veggies are a must!

If you add some granola to your oatmeal, it keeps it a little more interesting. ;) I used to eat a lot of it.

I’ve lost about 12 lbs since September!

breakfast: hi fiber cereal w/light vanilla soy milk.

hot green tea at the office.

lunch: i buy a veggie tray from the market and leave it at the office and eat that every day. with my lunch (half a sandwich or protein shake or grilled salmon). water.

diet coke (i consider this a snack/treat!)

dinner: something lo carb like a salad with lots of veggies in it. or grilled chicken + steamed broccoli.

if i get hungry after dinner i drink light vanilla soy milk. the protein in it keeps you feeling full/satisfied.

i also started going to the gym again after a 1-2 week hiatus. lots and lots of cardio…

I have lost 7 lbs last month… good considering I started halfway through! I’m sure its mostly water weight but I was so happy when I stepped on the scale today (after a decent sized lunch I might ad!)

I’ve just been watching what I eat via Spark People (godsend!!) and starting to do cardio 4-5x a week and weights 2x.

I use sparkpeople too!
I have lost about half a dress size since I started about a month ago. I eat healthier and I started doing a lot of exercise. I do 4-5x cardio and weights (most of the time start with half an hour cario and do half and hour weights afterwards).
But I have a lot more to lose. I now have to decide how long I will wait to buy my wedding dress.

Wow! I never knew about Spark People and signed up today. 25 pounds to go. I’m good with exercise but need help cutting out red wine, reducing my portions & staying away from sweets. I think that website will really work, thanks to all who recommended it!
