As the time draws closer to my trip to Thailand, my first fitting, and not to mention the actual wedding date, I realize that I need to start buffing up and losing some weight fast! My ultimate goal is to lose about 30lbs by my 1st fitting - which thankfully will not be until mid summer. However I do need to shed some pounds by the time I head off to Bangkok in April, especially because I will be taking pictures on the beach there as well as getting my Thai costumes tailored there. I’ve been procrastinating about this, but I really don’t think I can delay much longer. I’m already behind in the game. So with that in mind, I have a little over 2 months to work with until I go to Thailand.
I’ve never been very slim unlike many Asian women are. I have some curvature here and there, and I’ve been quite content with that. The smallest street size I’ve ever worn was a size 5 in my first few years of college. As it stands right now, I’m pushing between an 8-10. Which isn’t by any means huge, but I would like to go back to the size I was when I was in college. And being short, (I’m only 5′2″) I have a small frame so a little weight on me goes a looong way.
I’ve signed up for SparkPeople which is a free online dieting community, and I’ve found a wealth of information there. There are members I’ve found who are truly inspirational. WeddingBee even featured a knottie guest who raved about SparkPeople. I totally recommend signing up.
For all you New York ladies, the free newspaper AM New York had a 3 page spread on weddings this morning. I can’t say it was that that exciting, but it made my bus ride more entertaining. Even if you don’t live in NYC and want to read all about it, visit the articles are online!

I was late to work for a pretty ridiculous reason today, and thought I’d share.
Mr. Bluebell and I live in a third floor walk-up about a ten minute walk from the subway. So this morning after I left for work, I walked down three flights of stairs and about 8 minutes of the way to the subway. WHEN! I suddenly realized I’d forgotten to put on my engagement ring!!! For a split second I stood frozen on the sidewalk - be 20 minutes late(r) for work, or just go without the ring all day? Aaaand then I turned back around.
I called Mr. Bluebell and made him race down the stairs in his pajamas (he’s working from home) with the ring, so I wouldn’t have to run back up and down the three flights of stairs. When I got there, he was standing in the entryway holding out my ringbox (and freezing). After a quick fake proposal and goodbye kiss take 2, I was back on my way to work again.

Dear Weddingbee,
My girlfriend will be having a Bermuda cruise wedding for 5 days in September, and she would like suggestions on what to put in her goodie bags/baskets for her 50 guests?
Thanks!
Ms YuMMie

I just discovered the *coolest* site and thought I’d share it with anyone still searching for the perfect wedding band:
Anne Sportun: Experimental Jewellery
The ring designs are so unique, totally different than anything I’ve encountered before. They’re very light and individual looking, and there’s something about their casual look that I really like.
Check out this seed band (CDN $465 in 14k white or 18k yellow gold):

My earrings were purchased at a store called Managrove & NY located at the Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, NJ. They don’t have much on their website but I found tons of nice things at the store. If you are ever at the Garden State Mall in NJ, stop by and take a look and also, stop by the MAC counter at Nordstrom’s and say hi~!! I’m there most of the time.

My cake was provided by the Rockleigh Country Club. The bakery is called La Promenade and is located in Tenafly, NJ. It is called . I never had the time to go for a cake tasting before the wedding, but the cake turned out beautifully and tasted great.

My makeup artist was a close co-worker of mine, Evelyn Abanto. She did an amazing job. She has a private webpage on myspace. I’m currently trying to convert her to Xanga.
In preparation for looking my bestest on double-V-day, I grew out my brows so I could get them professionally shaped. Alright, alright, so I was too lazy and too busy eating free caterers’ food over the past few weeks (more on that later) to hit up my usual threading place in Orange County.
Anyway, since I had fully grown-in brows, I took the opportunity to see a professional. So everyone’s heard of Anastasia, and many have heard of the Eyebrow King. The receptionist at Damone Roberts was a little more cordial, they had an appointment available when I wanted it less than 24 hours in advance, and the salon came highly recommended by a handful of friends who have beautiful brows.
Sarah was the “brow diva” who did my brows. At $40 for a first time visit ($35 thereafer for follow-ups), it’s not cheap, but it was worth every cent. After what felt like adept waxing, plucking, and trimming, she applied some brow powder, gel, and brow highlighter. Now I have been blessed with dark, thick brows (bordering on unibrow if not properly groomed), so I NEVER use brow products. However, her application made me a believer. They just looked so much cleaner, defined, and well…groomed.
Thanks a bunch to everyone for commenting on the Weddingbee Readers Poll! Now that you’ve all shared, I’ll share a little more! haha. I picked up my dress yesterday, and I remember the reasons I fell in love with it the first time I tried it on.
1. The corset makes me look a little thinner
2. The fabric is gorgeous and light
3. It kinda makes me look thinner
4. The detail and the pick-ups on the skirt are amazing
5. It’s quite slimming now that I think about it
6. It’s exactly how I pictured my dress to be
7. Did I mention the corset?
Excuse my strange smile and my lack of make-up, please. So many brides say that when posting pictures of themselves during dress fittings. Weird. It’s like a curse or something. (I didn’t post pictures in the post because my fiance checks this site every now and then.)
I presented all the different travel options to Mr. Bee, and we decided to stay in Manuel Antonio for our entire trip to take advantage of Costa Rica’s beautiful beaches and rainforests. Although we would have liked to visit the volcano and hot springs in Arenal, that would mean a 4 hour drive there from the airport, and a 5 hour drive down to Manuel Antonio. Since we only have 3 full days to do things, we’d like to minimize travel and maximize relaxation. And if all the reviews are any indication of how great Costa Rica is, we’ll probably go back one day.
I’ve been researching hotels based on referrals, and reviews on tripadvisor and virtualtourist, and have narrowed down our options to 4.

Mr. Apple and I moved into our new home about 6 months ago, and just last weekend I finally had some time to clear out some old boxes. In one of the boxes I came upon some old birthday cards, photos, and lots of snail mail from my best friend in middle school. We met in 8th grade and she lived down the street from me - her name was Cathy Wang. I would remember fond memories of us hanging out after school, going shopping at the local mall, playing tennis on the weekends, walking over to the volleyball court in my neighborhood to check out the cute boys. She was also my partner in crime on the big yellow school bus #13 every morning and afternoon home. We were inseparable. She was my best friend.
But above all she was 100% supportive of me and my artwork. In high school we would have these statewide Latin Language & Art Competitions. I would usually place in the top 3 for my artwork, and she usually placed first or second in her language competition (cuz she’s a nerd like that but I love nerds!). There were times when I doubted myself and my abilities, but she was always there to give me that extra boost of confidence because she always believed in me. Even after years of distance we were able to keep in touch through snail mail. In the old letters I read from her yesterday, she asked if I kept up with my art and whether I’d made millions yet. Such a funny friend.
Alrighty folks. I am confused. So I’ve always heard that getting married will most likely lower your car insurance, but I was never sure why. I thought it was because the people who plug and chug your stats into a formula assume that if you’re married, you’re more responsible, less likely to drive crazy, and thus get into less accidents.
Sooooo if this is all true, I would want to let Geico know that I’m getting married in March, right? But then, I was thinking… is it considered “cheaper” because most people combine their policies and get a marriage discount of some sort. For example it’s cheaper once you get married combining policies than having two separate policies or is it cheaper period even if I wasn’t combining policies.
Why I ask is because Mr. Peach currently doesn’t own a car (he commutes into NYC via good ole public transportation), and therefore doesn’t have car insurance. So for me to let Geico know that I’m getting married, does that just raise my car insurance because we’ll now be living in the same household, and it adds an additional person to the insurance (even if he’ll rarely be driving the car)? And then there’s the law. Someone said it’s not about choice but that the law might require you to report a change in life (ie. getting married) to insurance policies within 30 days of the event.
Knottie MRSJeffswife2B did an amazing job coordinating all of her wedding components. Her color scheme, monogram, and vintage flair is echoed in every design element. From the cake to the website–everything is tied together seamlessly. It’s personal touches such as these that make your wedding your own and set it apart from the pack.
Yesterday I was at Mr. Kiwi’s school for an open house, when I was asked where we’re having our ceremony. The woman who asked was a senior citizen who attends mass every day at the church that is part of Mr. K’s school. Somehow I knew I should tell her we were undecided, since I knew Mr. Kiwi would get the brunt of the criticism for not marrying at the church he was raised in.
To my family, the idea of marrying in a church is odd because we’re so non-denominational it’s not even funny. If we did marry there, the question would undoubtedly be “Why are you marrying in a church?” Mr. Kiwi’s side on the other hand, thinks of it as somewhat an oddity to not get married in a church - “You’re getting married in a tent?!”
Since I’m always open about things, I tend to talk a lot. Mr. Kiwi accused me of not knowing my boundaries the other day. Why? Because the officiant I was talking to asked me what kind of wedding I visualized. When I said, “Well, Mr. Kiwi works at a Catholic school, but doesn’t really like the father there…” I was given the eye of death, and an admonishment that people don’t need to hear every detail about. Well I guess he’s right, but it just wasn’t something that was a big deal to me, though I do understand that it was a big deal to him.
