Beehive

February 1st, 2007 @ 3:14 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • alimir is looking for a honeymoon registry recommendation.
  • LC is looking for places to buy ringbearer’s outfits. SHe’s having a hard time finding a large selection at a decent price.
  • kandaceandjason wants to know a good place to start a wedding blog. She wants it to have a simple address people can remember, allow photo posting, and allow comments on posts.
  • ciaobella is wondering how much she’s expected to pay for a dj in the NY/NJ area. She got a quote of $5K from DJ David Chang and doesn’t know if that’s a good rate.
  • ciaobella also wants to know to how find a string quartet, and how much they typically cost. Has anyone ever tried posting at Juiliard, and would that provide a savings?
  • lil’k is looking for a good, afforable stylist who’ll travel to Northern Jersey. Sachiko is unavailable.
  • Miss Bluebear is looking for a hair and makeup person who will travel to LI the day of the wedding. She’d rather not pay an arm and a leg, but will consider it if they’re great.
  • gellibelly is looking for a place to get a monogrammed wedding dress label made.

I heard Crate & Barrel has this thing where they open it earlier just for engaged couples and you can walk around while they sample all their items. HOWEVER, I heard all their stuff breaks like crazy! Pottery Barn is much better (but so much more expensive, even though it’s worth it!). Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Target (for your non-rich friends) and Macy’s (for your richer friends). They both have everything!

Hello!
You ladies HAVE to post a blog on the crazy You-Tube bride who went NUTS over a bad hairstyle!!

I am DYING to know what her hair ended up looking like for her wedding…you have to see the clip, talk about a bridezilla!! Does anyone have an online photo of what she ended up looking like in her wedding photos?

I JUST SAW THAT CLIP! OMG, IT WAS HORRIFYING. In fact, it’s on my xanga blog right now! I feel sooooo bad for her! Do NOT get your hair done only an HOUR before your wedding! If you haven’t seen it, you can check it on http://www.xanga.com/melodiousness (thats my blog)

Where is a good place to start a wedding blog? I want to keep a written account of everything somewhere online, partly so I can post questions and get opinions, and partly so my younger sister will have some guidance when it’s her turn. I want it to have a simple address that people can remember, allow photo posting, and allow comments on posts.

kandance: have you tried blogger.com? that’s a free site and doesn’t require people to be members to post comments.

alimir - http://www.felicite.com looks like a great site. It works a little different than other sites though. It has great reviews.

LC - I’d try http://www.dresskids.com. They don’t have the greatest selection, but they definitely have the basics.

Does anyone in the NYC area have recommendations for hair and makeup person that would be able to travel to Long Island the day of my wedding? I would rather not have to pay an arm and a leg for two people, but if they are really great, I would consider. Thanks!

ciaobella,
My DJ and MC came out to be around $1600 and I am using http://www.dynastyweddings.com My MC Wendy was handpicked by me because she did my sister’s wedding and she is trilingual. She speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin! It’s not a full time gig for her though, but if you use Dynasty, you can request her services. The DJ I am using is Chris Chen and he is phenomenal. He used to DJ for the Asian parties back in High School and College. He is very personable and willing to work with you on packages. I didn’t need many of the “items” in some packages, I told him what I wanted and he gave me a fair price for all of it. I’ve heard of DJ David Chang and heard good reviews of him, but I think $5K is a bit much for 4 hours or so of entertainment.

I also hired a trio of musicians for my wedding and it came out to be just about $850 for a Cello, Violin and Flute. I used http://www.sterlingmusic.com and spoke with Allegra. She sent me a demo CD and was very patient with me. They charge about $200 per musician for the first hour and then $100 per musician for each additional hour. (If you only require half an hour, it would be an additional $50 per musician). That was the best price that I got from 6 companies that I researched on. Also depending on the size of the venue, you may not necessarily need a quartet, but you could ask her for suggestions as she is very good with details.

Sorry for the long email, but good luck!

LC — If you’re looking for a traditional tux, i ordered ring bearer tuxes from ebay seller kidstown online. the tuxes were super cheap (around $30), fit well (we ordered true to street size) and seemed to come before i hit send on paypal. the only negative is that i don’t think they are returnable if you happen to order the wrong size. photos and a review posted here:
