Mr. Raspberry and I just finished our financial planning for the next couple of years. We have a financial planner we work with who manages our health and life insurance policies, and helps us manage our money and save for the future.
Specifically, she has changed my life insurance to partial whole life, started a life insurance policy for Mr. Raspberry, changed my health insurance policy, and finally got a budget in place for us. We really want to buy a house within 4 years, and real estate is so expensive in DC. She was able to put a budget in place that will allow us to afford it in 4 years! 
We felt it was really important to get everything in place before the wedding because we want to feel secure, and not worry about the future not being taken care of.
Are you and your SO doing anything to plan for your financial future, either before your wedding or for the new year?
Wow…that’s so responsible…I’m a bit in awe of your planning skills 
I’m coming to the end of a long stretch of grad school that’s taken up a large part of my 20s, and so have abolutely nothing as far as retirement, savings, insurance, etc. FH has better benefits, but still we’re flying pretty much blind. Hopefully I’ll get the job that I’m trying for, which will actually be a career-making move. The plan is to meet with someone as soon as that happens to figure things out. One bright point is that our cost of living in the area we’ll likely be living is very low, and you can buy a starter-home for around 100k.
So far, we have only put together an initial budget for our first year. However, my FI is a personal financial planning major (graduating in May…finally!!), so he has a lot of things planned for us to do, but he wants to do his research first and find the best plans for us. I’m so lucky to be marrying such a smart man!

We just put together our budget for this year, but will go see a financial planner before the wedding. We’d love to buy a condo, but we’re only going to be here for another 3.5 to 4 years, and are worried that’s not long enough to make up our initial investment.
I’ve always had a budget and enjoy managing our finances. I have had a financial planner for the last 5 years. This year, I plan on getting life insurance on the FI and once the wedding is over, we will begin to buy investment property for our old age!!!!

You’ve reminded me that I should keep “meet with financial planner” at the top of my list!
As a teacher and with him working for a large corporation, we have retirement plans and health benefits in order (not insurance, though). I have a Roth IRA!
We still have to get that ish in order! And I’ve always wanted to meet with a financial planner (as does MrWSU). Buying a house in the near future is paramount for us as well.
I’m sure that we’ll have a joint account, but we’ll also have our own separate accounts. Not sure about everything else, though. We’ve got a couple of years to figure that out.

how much does she charge?
How do you go about finding a financial planner? How much do they generally charge? hourly? or a flat fee? Hrmm, never really thought about this but it sounds wise.
Miss Emerald, I don’t think they charge anything. Usually it is an agent from the firm they are working for. They work off commission.
