Help!

February 1st, 2007 @ 8:27 am by Mrs. Ladybug

The hub’s birthday is coming up. I booked dinner reservations, but wanted to do something special afterwards. But what? I already got him a gift so I’m just looking for ideas after dinner girls.

I wanted to do something different for his birthday this year since I totally screwed it up last year. Has anyone seen Avenue Q? Would that be good? Any suggestions?

Help anyone?

I saw Avenue Q- I loved it- it definately is quirky, I had to go alone because I knew no one who would enjoy it. However, it is hilarious, it takes a song or 2 to get into it, but once it gets rolling, it’s awesome!

I saw Avenue Q last year and it was hilarious. If you both have a good sense of humor, it’s definitely a worthwhile trip! =)

Ave Q, what a nightmare. My FI and mom are still mad at me for taking them to that one. Hated it! But hey, we walked out halfway through Wicked so clearly Musical Theater is not our thing (everyone else thought Wicked was good, maybe i was at another Theater). If he loves musical’s try it, if not stay away.

I would definately go for Ave Q…so different, and really fun. I still giggle at some of the songs (your guy will love the song about the internet and porn!)

If he’s a Monty Python fan, go see “Spamalot.” It’s amazing.

A bunch of us went to Ave Q a few years ago and all the guys really liked it (and they don’t like musicals) so it’s a good bet. Spamalot is also good and fun as is The Drowsey Chaperone (although FI didn’t like it as much but it has a wedding theme).

I’m not surprised that someone would take against Wicked (I love musicals, but it’s quite difficult musically to listen to) but Ave Q is perfect for someone who hates musicals. As long as you’re not too prim or particularly prone to being offended (”Everyone’s a little bit racist” and “The Internet is for Porn” are not everyone’s cup of tea) it is really hilarious in a ‘holy cow how can they get away with that’?! Guys would really take to it, particularly if they don’t love musicals persay. It’s like Sesame Street on Crack. In a good way!
Good luck and enjoy!!

yay for Avenue Q! While on a short trip to NYC last year, we saw the play. Very funny and everyone can relate to it!

Ave Q is perfect. It’s hilarious, it’s not too much ‘musical’, and it’s a crowd pleaser. Definitely do that.

I’m not normally a fan of musicals, but I thought Avenue Q was HILARIOUS. I had tears running down my face at one point I laughed so hard!

avenue Q is great! but if your hubby is a “guy’s guy” then he might not enjoy it. i honestly don’t know too many (straight) guys that enjoy musicals.

it was my FI’s bday just last weekend and first thing in the morning, I took him to Spa Utopia and stayed there all afternoon. Got him a massage and had him pampered like a prince. Then took him to dinner at this italian restaurant, Gusto di Quattro, amazing!! Then, because he’s a huge hockey fan, I surprised him with hockey tickets to that night’s game (landed on the same day - perfect!) and surprised him with a hockey jersey right before the game. So he felt pretty special that night. Took me awhile to plan it because of all the timing and the arranging of appointments and finding the tickets and jersey (the jersey was gonna take 6 weeks to arrive because they were sold out of the print he wanted, but luckily I found the very last one), and it was totally worth it. We’ve gone to musicals before but it’s really hard to say whether or not he’ll like it. Best bet would be doing something you’ll know for sure he’ll be interested in like a hobby of his.

I agree with hanhk. If Mr. Ladybug is even remotely like you (esp. your sense of humor) he would totally enjoy it. I think as long as anyone is open-minded, they would like the show.

Hey, this is just a guys point of view, but I think Beverly has the right idea. In the past I’ve gotten tickets to show’s and sporting events, and while I put on a big smile for both, it was the sports i really loved and felt like was a gift for ME! I’m a huge hockey fan though, and if your guy is into shows and stuff more power to him, see the show. good luck!

Wicked is the best broadway show ever! The singing does not compare to any other show.
But if it’s his bday, I’d rather get him something you know he would definitely enjoy. For my bf’s bday, I got him a pack of game tickets to the yankees. If he is sporty, get him something he would enjoy.
