Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Registry Must-Haves

February 1st, 2007 @ 12:21 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

As I blogged before, Mr. Kiwi was not too happy registering for gifts. He thought it was rude to presume people would buy us presents. Anyway, while I was fine about that, I made sure there was one thing I want - it is my “must-have” in our registry.

Ever since Mr. Kiwi and I worked at Jamba Juice (a billion years ago), I’ve wanted a blender. I LOVE blenders. My super-cool memory still knows most of the recipes from Jamba, and if I had the actual blender, I could make them at home! Be a hit at parties! Be popular! If only I had that blender…

But I digress. So, when we stepped into Bed Bath and Beyond, after first zapping us a Simple Human trashcan, I went to peruse the blender selection. Sure, we had already registered for one at Crate & Barrel (as Mr. Kiwi kindly pointed out), but BB&B has more! We ended up registering for this one:

As you can see, this comes with a food processor as well. Totally cool, and something we’d use. You’d think that after years of working at Jamba and having those supersonic blenders I’d want one, right? Yeah… no. I love the one we chose. I just can’t remember what color we got. Hmm. And yes, I did remove the Crate & Barrel one. :)

Mr. Kiwi didn’t really have any items he absolutely needed, but he did find one he wants: a cutting board. I’d show you which one, but he’s still researching the best kind. Yeah, months later. *sigh*

Did you and FI/Hubby have any must-haves on your registry? If you’re not married or engaged yet, what do you think you’ll want when the time comes?

We’re in desperate need of new pots and pans. And I’d really like a mixer machine. And a cuisnart cutting/chopper thingy. I’m not to concerned about dishes, we have some. Not the best, but those other things are more important at this point.

That’s so funny - my fiance was obsessed with getting a good cutting board, too. He registered for a $52 one! A CUTTING BOARD!

I told him good luck with that.

Our must-haves were new pots and pans, a microwave, and coffeemaker. I agree with the kitchenaid mixer. It’s not a must-have, but I was jumping for joy when I received it.

You can get the one they use at jamba juice at costco. My FI’s old roommate had one, it was amazing!!!!

haha–I registered for the exact same blender/food processor combo at BB&B! Anything dual purpose is great. I really want my breadmaker–I know some people criticize it as one of those things people never use, but growing up my mom used hers every week, and I intend to continue the tradition.

I am so in love with the Calphalon cookware set. It’s so expensive, but I hope people go in on it together for us. Also, the soft sheets. I had to have both the 500-thread count egyptian cotton sheets AND the Pure Beech sheets. FI, however, registered for a $50 bamboo cutting board. Funny thing: we already have a smaller bamboo cutting board and it split after a year. He also wanted a big wooden bowl (also $50) for bread to rise in. (We love making bread from scratch, but I don’t like the breadmaker crust. We mix our dough in the Cuisinart. It takes about 30 seconds).

I have that exact blender/processer, and it’s so great :D

My must-have were a few different knives. I cook quite a lot and would like to have some good quality ones.

Must-haves: great knives, pots & pans, and the Holy Grail of Registries — the KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer (in stainless steel, por favore!).

Mine is an espresso/cappuccino machine. A good one. I don’t know if I’ll actually get it, because it’ll be expensive for sure, but it’s definitely going on the registry before anything else! It’s a luxury item that I’d love to have but I’d never buy for myself. The other thing is a fruit bowl. I have no idea why I haven’t cracked and bought one myself over the last 2 years of living with my FI, but I haven’t, and it drives me nuts that we still pile fruit on top of the fridge in the plastic grocery bags we bought them in. UGLY. We need a fruit bowl.

Stand mixer of course. I have a bread machine and even though I don’t use it that often, it was cheap enough that a few uses has paid for itself. More pots and pans (how do two people go through so many dishes! I guess it’s because part of our health/money-saving plan was to cook at home more). Bath stuff that matches! More adulty/decorative things, since our college apartment was furnished mostly through garage sales and donations. It’s all hodge podge which worked well for college (read: cheap) but I’d love to give that stuff to my little sister and get the stuff that will make our house a lovely home.

A food processor!! I’ve been wanting one of my own since I had a job in a cafe/coffeeshop and was constantly making hummus and scone mix, and soups… *sigh*. I really want one. I asked for one for Christmas, but my parents got me a convection oven instead. I have no idea why. The thing is huge and I’m living with FI’s parents and hardly ever cook here. I don’t even know what one cooks in a convection oven. But I digress. I also want a Kitchen Aid stand mixer. FI wants a vacuum (how cute is he? he LOVES vacuuming).

Our must haves were a new set of pots and pans, our 8 place settings of fiestaware, and a food processor. My grandma went beyond the registry and bought us a wonderful Cusinart Quick Prep or Chop or something and I LOVE IT!!

KitchenAid counter top mixer. I love to bake, I love Ina Garten ( the Barefot Contessa) and sometimes I even secretly think that one day I might own my own bakery. So KitchenAid mixer is a must :-D

My husband “needed” a spice rack. I think he’s used it once in the 5 months we’ve been married!

man, i didn’t know a stand mixer was so coveted. i bought my own mixer five years ago.

bamboo is awful as a cutting board; please reconsider wood or plastic. do not use those pretty glass boards; they ruin your knives!

Well, we’re not getting married until 2010, but we’re planning on moving in together in the next 6 months, and we’re buying stuff we’ll need…but I’m hoping my Mom gets us some stuff (she’s been hinting at it)…like some pots & pans, and maybe a vacuum & a microwave. We’ve already bought our dishes/silverware/glasses, and a bunch of the essential kitchen gadgets. When we actually get married, we’ll probably register for new pots & pans (if we need them), and updated electronics, and decorative stuff. :)

I think my boyfriend would probably marry me just for the possibility of getting a Cuisinart mixer and attachments. He’s said that he doesn’t care what else we register for as long as we get one of those.
