You Win $5000!!!

February 1st, 2007 @ 4:06 pm by Mrs. Hibiscus

Well, not really. Sorry to get your hopes up. :) But if you had $5000 more to spend on your wedding, what would you do? My fiance would take the cash and pocket it, invest it in stocks or spend it on the honeymoon. I’d pass out hors d’oeuvres, have a candy buffet, have a gondola exit off the yacht (our reception is on a yacht), upgrade my flowers and photography package and… wait the 5K is gone. Hmm… I’m not very good at this. Okay, scratch the flowers. :)

What would you do with an “extra” 5K?

I would use $2k for a honeymoon and save the rest. We just bought a house that will be ready one month after the wedding, so we decided not to take a honeymoon. I’m still kinda sad about that part.

I would get letterpressed invitations. I saw some at KenzieKate that I loved, but sadly, they weren’t in my budget. I would also spend some on a honeymoon, since we won’t be taking one until we are more finacially stable.

Oh the possibilities. . . I’d throw the rehearsal dinner/welcome reception for my future in-laws, as future FIL is out of a job right now and they’re feeling pretty worried about money. Same goes for the reception we’re throwign after the honeymoon at home, they’ve offered to host but I’d love to help out.

I’d get a photobooth, have my invitations made (I’m DIYing) and then pocket the rest.

Definitely fireworks ;) I don’t think I’d have anything left over though. So my second option to make it stretch more would be a kickass after party and the honeymoon =D

get letterpress invites (i’m also DIYing), hire a coordinator (planning the wedding on my own, i know, i’m craaazy), and use the rest to help my parents pay for the hotel expenses.

Hire a videographer and fancy transportation. Other than that we’ve got everything I could want.

Better catering that included hors d’oeuvres and stations
Longer honeymoon
Full bar instead of just wine and multiple beer selection

Thistleorchid, I know how tough that is. My dad’s been jobless since before Christmas. While my FH and I have always been thrifty and will be able to make it work (with the help of credit which is the only downside), I know how hurt he is to not be able to contribute. But, he’ll find work again, as will your FFIL. Once he does, I bet he will want to contribute or reimburse us. I’m sure your FFIL will feel the same way. Right now, I’m looking for ways to involve him (and my stepmom) in non-monetary ways.

As for the 5k, probably invest it. But if it had to go towards the wedding, then a full bar, and then the remainder would go towards lots and lots of candles!

I wouldn’t even use it towards the wedding, I’d use it either towards renovating the kitchen or towards an investment property!

Definitely a salsa band…then paying for our wedding party’s dresses/tuxes etc. Then more for the honeymoon :) And save the rest!

if i had to use it towards the wedding, it would have been something seemingly frivolous… a lighting designer. :P
