Gocco Invites and STD’s

February 2nd, 2007 @ 4:42 pm by Reader Email

Hi Mrs. Bee!

Just wanted to write real quick and show you our gocco’d save the dates and invitations. I know you posted a while ago regarding the Japanese silk screening toy, but thought you and your readers would like to see a finished product! I did the design work and my fiance helped with gocco’ing, cutting, and assembling. All paper was purchased at Paper Source.

Save the Dates

Designed in Illustrator. White ink gocco’d onto red cardstock. Photobooth pictures were taken on my iMac and then photoshopped into strips, printed, cut, and glued onto the red cardstock. I like that it tells a little fairytale story, is clean, simple, and straight forward.

Invitations

We saw a design we both really liked at PaperSource. I went home and recreated all the paths in Illustrator from a crappy cell phone pic I took of it, and comped out a design that was a a bit different from the original. I wanted more oomph! I burned two screens for our invitation. One of the pink border, which I stamped twice on each card. And the text was burned onto another screen and gocco’d separately in brown ink once the border designs were done.

RSVP’s were done in a similar fashion. I scaled down the paths to fit the RSVP card. Designed it in Illustrator. Googled the appropriate dingbats for the cow, fish and carrot illustrations. One screen was burned, the two colors blocked off and cards gocco’d in one run.

The Map/Directions/Accommodations were designed in Illustrator and printed on an inkjet printer. There was just too much tiny text on the back to gocco it successfully.

Labels were designed on fullsheet mailing labels. I used the same path design from the invitation but kept it scaled large so that each label, once cut, would be a little different.

We gocco’d our return address in pink ink on the mailing envelope rather than use another label. I thought it’d look cleaner that way even though it was more work. (Sorry hunnie!)

It was a lot of work but we were really happy with the results! And I finally got a chance to use my gocco machine! I had heard about it a few years ago and got one for my birthday, but never used it till now. I have to say it came in handy and I’m glad I held out on using it since I used up all my screens + bulbs! I have some tips for those interested in gocco’s but that will have to wait and come in another email.

- Sarah

WOW they look incredible!!!! I am sooo impressed, I really wanted to do invites DIY but in the end reluctantly had to admit I just wouldn’t be able to make them look nice enough, so I’m sooo jealous that you were able to both do them yourself and have them look so fantastic!!!

heyjanety - put “gocco” into the search box and you’ll turn up a bunch of results. i bought one awhile back, but have been so swamped that i haven’t had time to play with it.

Wow, that looks great Sarah! Did it take you long to get it looking so perfect? You mentioned this was pretty much your first time using it right?

Also, I didn’t understand what you were saying here:
“We gocco’d our return address in pink ink on the mailing envelope rather than use another label. I thought it’d look cleaner that way even though it was more work.”
Do you mean that you Gocco’d the actual envelope itself? Because it looks like a label?

These are so gorgeous and inspiring! I gocco’d our STDs (the choc & silver wiener #s I posted for the stuff on my pet contest) and we are going to Paper Source next week to choose invite paper. Did you buy uncut stock and DIY everything? Where did you find your border graphics? Everything looks amazing!!

just about to leave to get our marriage licence.

but the env liner = scrapbooking paper we bought at michaels!

and the return address (our address) we gocco’d on the larger envelope….there’s no picture of that. the mail to labels were created on full sheet mailing labels and then cut into strips.

Wow, they look good! Gocco’d invites I’ve seen in the past were a bit “lacking” in print quality, but from what I can see of yours, they look really nice! Great work!! :)

And best of luck with everything!

Cheers,
Crissy

i heard about gocco from weddingbee last year, and I just posted my gocco invites on my xanga site (click my name if you want to see them, it’s my latest post).

weddingbee should totally talk to the gocco company, the wedding industry might be enough to convince them to start selling them in the US again.

L: no, it doesn’t take a while to get it right. but the gocco is definitely a DIY project meaning it looks handcrafted and is imperfect at times. but i really liked that so it didn’t bother me!

jon010107: i have the B6 kit.

tachee: hm, i’m not sure how much we spent on the invites. what we bought: purchased all the cardstock + envelopes, the envelope liner kit, decorative paper to line the envelope, full sheet labels, and stamps for the mailing env and rsvp envs.

the gocco was a present from my parents a few years prior.

laura: your std’s look fantastic!

weemo: hi weemo! LOL!

newly_engaged, those look awesome!! i’m thinking of buying a gocco machine now…just curious, what size card stock are your invitations?

newly_engaged

i used 5 x 7 cardstock.
the print/screen size on the gocco is smaller than that so you have to make sure and design something that fits.

goodluck!

Awesome job! I got the link to this post from the Hawaii board on theknot and I am now scouring the internet for gocco at work! I have gorgeous monograms that were designed for me but am not sure if all the detail will gocco nicely. Any advice?
