No Engagement Ring

February 2nd, 2007 @ 8:29 am by Mrs. Plumeria

… but for a good reason, I suppose. After reading Miss Bluebell’s post about feeling naked without the ring, I felt it was rather ironic that I am going to be without mine for quite some time, as it’s at the jeweler’s being matched to a custom-made wedding band (slight changes to both).

At first, I thought I’d substitute a small “promise” ring that Mr. Plumeria had given to me when we had been dating about a year, but as it wasn’t made for the all-important left ring finger, it’s too large and I don’t want to wear it for fear of losing it. So, I’ve been going through my daily duties ringless — it felt very strange at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. I didn’t even consider the possibility that people at work, etc. might notice and think something had happened. (I sincerely hope this is not the case!)

At any rate, though I am without a ring, I do have Mr. Plumeria’s wedding band in hand to share! He originally wanted a super plain band, rounded, no etching, no anything, and definitely no stones on it. I convinced him to at least try on some of the slightly more unique ones, and he ended up really liking this one — and it looks great on him, if I do say so myself. :)

one of the fiance’s and my concerns about leaving the e-ring with a jeweler is that they may do the switch-a-roo with the diamond. you dont feel the slightest bit nervous?

Very valid question sue! I would be nervous, except my stone is a unique cut made only by Derco Diamonds, and it has a serial number micro-engraved on its girdle. So, besides the fact that they sold it to me in the first place, the number makes it pretty impossible for them to switch without discovery. And honestly with the amount of diamonds they have at that place, they have no reason to want mine back. Hahaha. :) I’m glad to see others that have bought from Derco!

I have been looking for an engagement ring for quite some time and have not yet found the perfect fit. I definetly like the one you had found. Is this ring specific to Derco - or is it produced by a national brand?

Thank you!

Hi Jeff! I’m assuming you’re talking about the men’s wedding band in this post — not my engagement ring (which is also from Derco, though). I think the exact ring is Derco’s design, but there are similar ones all over the place. Derco has two locations in SF and one in San Jose (I think).

If you’re talking about my engagement ring (not pictured in the above post), the stone is called a Galia and is indeed a Derco exclusive cut. My wedding band and engagement setting were both custom-made by Derco. Hope to help! You can email me at plumeria@weddingbee.com if you have any other questions.
