I don’t like attending big events or parties because 1) I’m an introverted hermit, 2) I have horrible facial blindness and never remember what anyone looks like (this has caused me embarrassment on numerous occasions in the past), and 3) I have hearing problems so it’s really hard to understand what people are saying in loud settings.
But when Rebecca of Engaging Concepts invited me to Preston Bailey’s book release party, of course I couldn’t pass it up! She’s awesome and has been an amazing supporter of weddingbee since Day 1! As I was waiting in the lobby to meet her, Martha Stewart walked right by me! It was definitely a sign that the night was going to be an interesting one.
Rebecca knows everyone in the wedding industry, so she introduced me to a ton of people including the editor-in-chief of Brides Magazine (who I’ve met before and is super nice!), editor in chief of Bridal Guide Magazine, David Tutera, Terry Gruber (totally cool guy!), and so many more. The best part of the evening was talking to people in different aspects of the wedding industry who were weddingbee fans!
But there were some highlights…
The wedding industry is very small, and I always remember the people who are nice to little ol’ me. It’s really refreshing when you meet people who are huge (like Preston Bailey), and are so humble and down to earth. Sorry I didn’t stalk the celebrities or take that many pictures - I didn’t want to be an Asian tourist busting out my camera.
But here are a few!
Men with wings greeted us at the entrance.

The theme was a wintry one with white branches and white carpet lining the entryway…

The centerpieces that encompassed the entire dance floor. Inside each clear glass ornament was a flower and a battery operated light. They must have been 10 feet tall! They were magnificent in person, but it’s kinda hard to tell what they looked like in this pic.

More of the glass ornaments that adorned the tables.

The man of the hour. There must have been well over 500 guests there.
The Rainbow Room. Spectacular city views btw if you want to get married here or just have dinner.
Huge floral arrangements at each food station. Hydrangeas on top and an assortment of roses and violets (I think) inside the vases.
A Gobo light on the ceiling

And finally there were performances by Sister Sledge, and Jennifer Holiday (the original Dreamgirl that Jennifer Hudson plays in the movie).

Thanks so much for inviting me Rebecca! The food was great, the music was great (must get the name of the DJ), and I had an amazing time!
A year ago, I was sitting at home and weddingbee was but a glimmer in my eye. And now I’m meeting so many people in the industry who are so kind and supportive. Thanks to the wonderful weddingbee community for making the past year possible. I’m looking forward to meeting many of you at the one year anniversary party! ![]()
