Beehive

February 3rd, 2007 @ 8:44 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • min wants to know if anyone remembers the song they played on the show “Big Day” (ABC) this past Tuesday when she was walking down the aisle.
  • Hel Hel wants to know if anyone has hired a magician in NYC for tricks performed up close? Things like card tricks, coin behind the ear. She’s looking for someone to entertain at an upscale location, and hopefully incorporate the bride and groom in some of the tricks.
  • gwacie needs help finding a hair/makeup person in Northern NJ. She ended up looking like a geisha with a beehive at her last trial.
  • SWC wants to know where she can find bridesmaidy dresses off the rack other than J. Crew, Ann Taylor, and Nordstrom. She only has 17 weeks til the big day and is worried ordering dresses will take too long.
  • Lauren wants your open on the quality of the paper that White Aisle uses for their menu, programs, etc. She ordered samples but wants some expert advice.
  • Joan is thinking of getting married in Costa Rica in Sept 07 of Jan 08, but doesn’t have time to go look at sites. Any advice on whether this is a crazy or whether you had a great experience is appreciated.
  • melodiouscarol is looking for a great makeup/hair artist that is cheap and will come to you. She needs one for engagement pics and the wedding day. Preferably someone in the OC area who knows how to work with Asian faces.
  • S wants to know for those of you who rubberstamped your invites, are you supposed to blot the stamp each time to get rid of excess ink? She’s having trouble with too much or too little ink. Advice for the newbie is appreciated.

Seventeen weeks for bridesmaid dresses? I think you should be fine. I ordered my wedding gown with only twenty weeks before the big day (and if it doesn’t come in on time I’m going to have a nervous breakdown!) If there’s a a couple of dresses or lines you like, why don’t you call one of the online retailers like Netbride or Pearl’s Place and ask them what the delivery times have been like lately. They should know who is quick and who isn’t, and who honors the delivery dates they’ve promised. Besides, you could always pay a rush fee.

And if you don’t like Ann Taylor’s current offerings, I believe they’re coming out with new spring “Celebrations” dresses any day, it says “early February” on the website.

Hel Hel - my FI is a professional magician and he’s awesome. Close-up magic is his specialty and he can do card & coin tricks but also some other way cooler stuff too. If your budget includes paying for a magician to travel, we live in Vancouver but I’m sure he would be more than willing to head out to NY! If not, I am certain that he’ll know of someone he can recommend for you - he knows magicians all over the world. Drop me a line at laurashannonsmart AT hotmail DOT com.

SWC - my bridesmaids ordered from J.Crew online and received their dresses within one to two weeks. One was “backordered” and took two months (all of 8 or 9 weeks), but I think if you called your order in, they could tell you that on the phone and you could decide from there.

If you get one to two weeks out and don’t have anything, then you should consider off the rack…until then, I think you have time to visit some of those stores and/or buy online.

Bonus: I hear the dresses are all going on sale. :-)

Does any know the quality of the paper that White Aisle (www.whiteaisle.com) uses for its programs, menus, etc.? I am considering using them for my programs and menus, and was hoping to hear of positive experiences. I did orer samples, but wanted to get some expert advice as well :) Thanks!

I am thinking of getting married in Costa Rica, but don’t have time to go and look at sites. Any advice about whether this is crazy or whether you had a great experience with a place in Costa Rica. (we are thinking either September 2007 or January 2008) I would be so grateful!!

Does anyone know of a great makeup/hair artist that is cheap and will go to you? They don’t need to be SUPER professional, just good enough. I need one for enagement pics and for the wedding day. Preferably in the OC area and someone who knows how to put makeup on Asian faces!

I have a question for everyone that has rubberstamped their invites–are you supposed to blot the stamp each time (i.e. stamp it on a blank sheet first to get rid of excess ink) before doing it for “real”? I’m having trouble with too much or too little pressure/too much/too little ink etc. Any advice for a newbie is appreciated!

MELODIOUSCAROL,
If I’m assuming correctly, by OC you mean Orange County in California, right? If so, I recently got married and “LoAnn To” from “Lets Get Beautified” did my make-up. Great personality, professionalism, and skill. Contact her at letsgetbeautified@yahoo.com
She meets all of your listed criteria.

i used white aisle for my std…the paper was gorgeous, but the ink was really runny. by the time it arrived at guests’ homes (via the mail) some of the ink had smugged. aside from that, they were beautiful. i’m not sure if this would be a problem for programs or menus because i don’t know if it was a result going through the mail or just poor ink quality. (btw, none of the samples had runny ink)
hope that helps!

this isn’t wedding related, but I was just wondering whether anybody knows how Mrs. Rose is? I remembered the last time that no one could get in touch with her, so I was wondering if there were any updates.

White Aisle– We ordered our invites through them for our 12.2.06 wedding and I couldn’t have been happier with everything, the quality of the paper (so soft) and the ink (no running) but most importanly I received them so fast and they were wonderful to deal with. Great company!

Joan - I grew up in Costa Rica and I’ll be getting married there in Aug 07. There are two ways to go that would be easiest - a big resort that has a wedding co-ordinator. They can take care of everything from beginning to end. I don’t know your budget but there’s everything from the Four Seasons and the Marriott Los Suenos to Villa Calletas at Jaco beach (gorgeous place to get married). The other way is to contact a wedding co-ordinator. My photographer is amazing, speaks fluent English and is tapped into the wedding scene and I’m sure would be more than happy to give suggestions of wedding co-ordinators down there that can do everything for you from cake to flowers to music to officiant. Bring your dress, makeup and some friends and family and bam, insta-wedding! Francisco can be found at http://www.weddings.co.cr
He’s got a great section on information about weddings on the site. If you’d like further info, contact Bee for my email.

Thanx Sue! Did you have your trial there already? Are they Korean? I’ll have to check it out. :) Someone also recommended Kim Sunyoung and Soomoolsahl. Does anyone know if they’re any good? I can’t keep going on these trials….at this rate i’ll end up spending more money on the trials than on the actual wedding day!!
