Keep It On? Or Take It Off, Baby!

February 3rd, 2007 @ 5:31 pm by Mrs. Peach

I’ve been thinking about whether or not I’m going to keep my veil on during my reception. Mrs. Snail said she kept her veil on because she didn’t really like her hair. (Hopefully this will not be the reason that determines whether or not I’ll be keeping my veil on. haha)

But yeah, I was curious… Did/will you keep your veil on after the ceremony and during your reception? Or will you take it off? Is there a reason why?

I am definitely taking it off. It’s a pet peeve of mine when brides keep the veil on for the reception. I think it looks so silly. Although, not liking one’s hair is an entirely valid excuse.

I took mine off during the reception. For me, wearing a veil was mostly a nod to tradition during the ceremony. Also, I saw my husband before the ceremony so I saved the veil as a “surprise” for him while I walked down the aisle. Plus, I had a rockin’ hairdo that I didn’t want to disguise!

If you love the veil or think that your dress feels more complete with it on–wear it the whole time. It’s up to you!

I’m keeping mine on, I personally feel you’re going for a more traditional look, then the veil is an essentail part of the look. There’s just something about the veil that makes you pop as the bride.

I plan on taking mine off since it will be cathedral length. I will also have a rhinestone pin or flower which I don’t want to hide. Later in the night, I’ll be changing dresses and I’ll have other accessories too.

I personally love veils, but was recently going back and forth about wearing or not wearing one. I decided I would probably wear it at the reception because 1.) What other day of your life will you be able to wear a veil and not be made fun of? and 2.) There’s not going to be any dancing at our reception, so I won’t have to worry about getting entangled in it.

I think it entirely depends on you. Don’t decide on anything just now– you might put the veil in on your wedding day and fall in love with it– or you may hate it so much that the first thing you do after you’re pronounced Mr. and Mrs. is tear it off and stomp on it. :)

I took mine off and opted for a feather boa around my shoulders instead. :) With as many hugs I got, I’m really glad I did that because I know it would have been ripped out eventually.

If I wear it at the reception, it’ll be a half one with another one that’s longer for the reception. My sister did a cathedral length with a shorter fingertip on top of it. They were both mounted on a circular mount that went over her bun, so as not to disguise the hairstyle. The longer one was attached by velcro underneath the little circular mount so that it was easily taken off.

Knottie JillAly kept hers on and kept it over her arm. Check out her bio!

I’m not wearing a veil at all…we’re going to be outdoors and it’s just not me–I’d rather wear a flower. But if I did wear one, I would take it off for the reception…just low maintenance and free! ;-)

I planned to keep mine on longer, but I couldn’t wait to take it off after the ceremony! With all those hugs, it kept getting tugged on. It was such a relief to take it off.

I kept mine on all night. It was long, but I had the seamstress who did my alterations attach a small little bitty loop in the center at the edge of the bottom and I looped it over the comb for the reception. I really enjoyed wearing it aside from the wind after the ceremony ripping it out of my hair. There’s a few dance photos that show my veil. http://www.xanga.com/shortcake2675/560181119/wedding-photo-extravaganza.html

I plan to wear mine until it annoys me and then I’ll take off the longest layer. If it still annoys me, I’ll ditch the whole thing.

No no no! I’m going to dance the night away. Plus its my something borrowed (it was my sister’s), so I want to take extra special care of it.
