About Mrs. Kiwi

Weekend Widow

February 3rd, 2007 @ 2:48 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

For the past two years, Mr. Kiwi and I have spent Super Bowl Sunday at home making football food (bean dip, nachos, fried things) and watching the game. Now, we’ve been invited by my BIL to be to spend Sunday at his house. I should add that BIL said, “Just tell Miss Kiwi that the women have to let the men sit first….” so we don’t impair their vision. So, I’ve decided to do something else that day.

Since I’m the future wife of a coach, our weekends are spent with various teams, football, basketball, track. We’re trying to get as much planning done before the summer, since he’ll be traveling across country for beach volleyball things. This is why I’m now known as a “sports widow.” This is also why I’m turning into a “weekend widow!”

But as much as I love spending time with Mr. Kiwi, there are some things I have to do alone. Like going to the Natural History Museum, or seeing a stupid movie. There are also wedding things I like to do alone, like dress shopping, or going to the florist. And really, does he honestly need to know about what kind of favor box we use?

How about you? Are there wedding things you wish he’d help with? Or do you prefer to do things by yourself?

I think I’m better off just going at it myself. Can’t go wrong with things that I decide…then again I wouldn’t have anyone to blame if it goes wrong…hmmmmm dilemmas, dilemmas.

We live 6 hours apart right now, so while I don’t necessarily want him helping with every detail, it’s really hard to get his input and opinions on things over the phone and internet. Trying to organize addresses of all our relatives was pretty frustrating over the phone, I had to keep emailing him lists of people to get addresses from.
My fiance wanted a bigger wedding than I did, so I told him it was fine as long as he helped. Hopefully once we aren’t living so far apart that will be easier.

Unless I’m really unsure about an item, I’m pretty much on my own with much of the wedding stuff. I’m happy with it that way for most of it. If I took my FI with me to pick out ribbon, he would take the first green ribbon he saw and that would be it. I just spent a whole hour in the Fashion District finding the perfect ribbon for our programs. I like it that way. Now when it comes to tying the ribbon on the programs. . .he better pitch in a hand!

i was the lousiest organiser as far as my own wedding is concern! :)

my then-fiance had to take up the responsibility from helping to get the printer to getting favour suppliers. i’d come out with my idealistic concepts, he’d gotta get things done! it was funny hehe

My fiancee offered to go with me wedding dress shopping on friday! (my mom, sisters and some of my best friends all live outside the US, so I had no one to go with me. My other 2 good friends in the city wouldn’t take a day off just for this, and I totally understand)

So, at first I wasn’t sure. Everyone said it was a bad idea, the groom is not supossed to see the bride and all that. But you know what? I was glad he came! I realized that I want him to love my dress as much as I do, plus, he has good taste and strong opinions about certain clothes (we watch project runway together), so I decided that once I narrow down my options I’ll bring him to see them all and then I’ll pick!

I think he’s the first groom to help choose the bride’s dress, or do you know of any other cases?
