Another DIY’d Little Detail

This time it’s my garter. This is really not a big deal to me at all, but what can I say? I like to be crafty, even if it’s for something no one else will really see. Anyway, I didn’t want a ruffly one — just something very thin and fairly plain, with a small accent to make it pretty. So here it is!

Basically, I sewed a tube of white fabric (left over from the ringbearer pillow I made) twice as long as I needed it to be, stitched on a strip of metallic cord, inserted a piece of elastic, and sewed the ends shut. It’s kind of like a glorified scrunchie, really. The only details I put on afterward was a crystal-encrusted button, a few loops of the metal cord and thin white ribbon, and a few Swarovski crystals/seed beads that I had lying around. Though, I did use blue thread to stitch the cord on, for my “something blue.”

Eh, those details just kill me — little things that I delight in that really don’t matter at all. But it’s fun, right? :)

Very sweet. The store bought ones are pretty much nothing to write home about, and I love the sentiment. Are you keeping this or it’s to toss and give away?

My mom made me a garter from the fabric cut off from the bottom of my gown when they hemmed it. I had them save EVERY bit of fabric/lace cut off so I could use it for this or for other accessories or my scrapbook. (Note: The fabric cut from the hem was dirty from the shop and mom had to wash it, but no biggie — handwash in the sink is good enough for this project; dry cleaning would’ve been overkill.)

For those skilled enough to make a garter — it’s 99% the same project as making a hair scrunchie, which is a nice little DIY gift for a flowergirl or junior bridesmaid (not that they HAVE to wear it for the wedding).
