He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. Something For The Fridge

February 5th, 2007 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Lemon

I should be used to it by now, but it still makes me smile every time I visit a friend’s house and see my “Save the Date” postcard on their fridge. They made it through the mail months ago, and yet many people have decided to keep theirs up as a piece of kitchen art.

We opted to send out glossy 4×6 postcards (that I designed in Adobe Illustrator, and printed through VistaPrint), featuring a beautiful picture of the Big Sur coastline. Now I know magnets are popular items to send as notifications, but I wanted something different with a larger visual impact, and people have managed to find a magnet on their own to hang it up. I wanted people to be excited about traveling to our wedding, and to think, “Wow! Miss Lemon’s wedding is coming up!” every time they headed for a snack. And in some delusional way, my trick seems to be working! People have rented houses, planned week-long excursions and are excited about the trip and their own mini-vacation.

Oh… and these nice personal glossy postcards cost a whole $20 for 100 of them (front and back full-color). I know that VistaPrint has since changed their cardstock, so it might not be optimal to use them for the highest quality product, but I definetely recommend using a simple postcard to send out your notice!

I understand the feeling. I get giddy when I see my postcards on other people’s fridges also!

My FI didnt want me to do save the dates. But we had a great picture of him on one knee in front of the Eiffel tower. So it was like duh postcards were getting made. I made the post cards with the idea of just sending them to my half of the list. Well once he saw them he wanted me to send some to his people too. Every few days he tells me how much people like them and even his barber had it up in the shop! And each time he tells me I smile inside!

We did business cards + business card sized magnet backs, and I looooveee seeing them on peoples’ fridges! But here in the midwest, a lot of people have never heard of the concept, and didn’t even realize that it was a magnet in w/ their STD. Yeesh! hehehe

Looks great. I would keep it on the fridge, too.

What a beautiful photo! We used vista print to send out postcards, too, and I loved them! Of course, we’re getting married in rural Ohio, so I just decided to use a pre-made background instead of a picture of corn.
