Stamps Info

February 5th, 2007 @ 5:04 pm by Mrs. Ladybug

Rumor has it that stamps are going up to 42 cents after May 1st, so send out your invitations and save the dates by the beginning of April if you can. This way your guests have enough time to send back their reply cards before the rate hike, especially if you’re affixing stamps on the rsvp envelopes.

it’s not official yet… there are just rumors. but it’s probably true. here’s an article on it, along with the proposed rate hikes, and the introduction of a “forever” stamp that would be sold at the 39 cent rate but work once postage goes up to 42 cents.

of course they wouldn’t be the pretty wedding stamps then… ;)

USPS is trying to make a case to charge customers “actual cost” of mailings… rather than flat rates. The public comment period ended on the 31st… so nothing can be decided for at least another month.
[gosh I'm such a poilcy nerd]
It’s radically different from previous across-the-board hikes … and until its in law, your post office won’t probably know about it.

What a good device to encourage guests to RSVP promptly — under threat of having to get their own darn stamp to up the postage. Sigh, if only it were that easy.

Miss Manners last week: Q: (paraphrase) What do I do now that half of my wedding guests haven’t even RSVP’d? A: (and I quote) — “Entertain the other half.”

That’d just be so ridiculous….that’s getting so close to 50 cents to mail a damn letter. I’ll just HAND OUT my invites. Ha.

i wanted to stock up on the hershey kisses stamps that started a few weeks ago for my may invites…but mail clerk suggested waiting b/c they can’t decide on the rate…and in case it did change…i wouldn’t want to have to stick on an additional 3cent stamps.

I asked at the post office and they said they didn’t think there would be a rate increase until summer. Ah well, I guess I’ll just wait to stamp mine right before I send them out…although that makes it kind of annoying in terms of stamping the RSVP’s. I guess I’ll just have to assemble everything right before.

I’m going to get teh invites out before then, but what should we do about the RSVP cards? Give them the full postage? Assume they’ll add a stamp?

I guess wait to see what happens is the right answer right now!

thistle: have a date for when your guests need to return the reply cards by and make it like the 2nd or last week of april. if they’re late and need to add extra postage that’s their fault, no?

I asked our post office and they had no clue. But, I’ve heard the rumors as well. I’m waiting until mid-may, hopefully it will have changed by then.

Also, they will be releasing new wedding stamps this year!
