We Have An Officiant!

February 5th, 2007 @ 2:00 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

As I mentioned before, we were hoping to have my aunt officiate our wedding, but it was taking a while for me to get my nerve up just in case she didn’t want to do it for some reason. I finally talked to her last night, and she was thrilled!!! I’m so excited that we finally have someone to officiate since, when it all comes down to it, you can get married without flowers or a cake, but you do technically need someone there to make it legal! Wooohoooooo! :-D

Who is officiating your wedding?

Is anyone else having a friend or family member officiate your wedding? How much past history do you have with your officiant?

I had to pick “other” because our officiant doesn’t really fit into any of the categories! My FI’s aunt will be marrying us, but is not ordained. See, there’s this wonderful loophole…err, accomdation…in Pennsylvania Marriage Law that allows for a Self-Uniting License. This means the marriage license is exactly the same as if we were getting married in a church, except there is no line for an officiant to sign. It was originally intended for Quakers, but is available to anyone who asks for it and pays the $15 extra when applying for their license! We are so happy to have found this as the officiant would have been the hardest part of all this planning!

We’re having a close friend officiate, thanks to the universal life church online ordination. :D It’s valid in the state where we’re getting married, but if it wasn’t we would just have FHs mom officially marry us when we returned home to FL, as she’s a notary and that’s an accepted person there.

Don’t have one yet. Really don’t even have an idea. Neither of us goes to church regularly, so I’d kind of feel like am imposter asking his parents minister to do it. I don’t really want someone random either. Another reason we really should go back to church…

I come from a family of ministers (seriously), so we’re having 2 of my uncles (one from my dad’s side and one from my mom’s side), who are already ordained ministers, officiate the wedding. I have to say that it made things a lot less complicated having them already family AND ordained to begin with, especially since FI is close to both of those uncles as well. :-)

we’d probably use my current pastor. i’ve been going to my church for almost 15 years now! he’s almost like a second dad so i’d be honored to have him marry me

Our friend who set us up on a blind date six years ago was the one who married us.

My father is an ordained minister and will be marrying us. The only issue is that he will walk me down the aisle also. He doesn’t have an associate pastor to stand-in for the “giving away” so we are skipping that part of the ceremony.

My uncle is marrying us. He’s been in my life since I was born and I’m excited for the personal touches he’ll be able to add!
