He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!

Craigslist to the Rescue!

February 6th, 2007 @ 1:38 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Just when I had given up all hope of ever capturing my wedding antics on film, along comes my friend Craig and his glorious list of all things magical and cheap. Craigslist.org is a staple of life in the Bay Area, and I’ve been a rapid fan of it in LA for the past 6 years. There’s even a little version for Monterey (where we’re getting married)… but I never expected to find much on it for weddings services. Never being one to give up hope on finding bargains, I entered “wedding” into the search box and BAM…I happened upon this subject line:

Affordable Wedding Videographer
Could it be true? Perhaps it’s just a lure into another “affordable” $2000 package that doesn’t exist in our budget? Or maybe…just maybe…

I clicked to open the message, and to my utter shock and amazement, I found yet another wedding bargain. $500 for a full 5-hours of wedding coverage, edited DVD (to my musical choices), and a whole $15/hour for all the extra stuff. GASP! Really?!?!

I thought it was too good to be true until I googled the source, and realized she’s a documentary filmmaker who is just looking to make some extra money on a few open weekends. She sent me two full DVDs from the fall, and it’s simply perfect! Our memories will be captured on high quality broadcast film without paying for a mini Sundance feature. I mean, I really can’t recall the last time I watched my high school or college graduations on DVD, or any of my many stage performances captured on VHS, so I seriously doubt the wedding will make it off the shelf many times over the years. But the price and quality is too perfect to pass it up and I’ll feel good just knowing it’s there.

So keep your eyes open for those great opportunities to triumph over outrageous pricing schemes! Craigslist might be your friend too…

p.s. If you live in a metro area and would like to search more than one board for the same thing, try using CrazedList.org.

Hi Miss Lemon…

I’ve been scratching the idea of getting a photographer at all for budget restrictions, but that’s awesome! Can you please send me her email or contact info? (bobsgirl79@gmail.com)

Susie - I’ll send you the info… but this was for a videographer and not a photographer… so I’m not sure which one you’re looking for… but I’ll send it along!

Tea - she’s a Monterey local… which is even crazier that someone like that exists in a small little area!

I LOVE CRAIG! I found both my DJ and Photographer through craigslist. They are both from LA and even though I live about 2 hours from L.A. they’re both willing to travel AND they’re much cheaper than anyone I have met in my area!

One recommendation. Before you book a videographer, ask for a full length DVD and see what the shooting and editing style looks like in a completed video.

With video like everything else, you do get what you pay for.
