Maid of Honor Dress!

February 6th, 2007 @ 5:48 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

My lovely and exceptional in every way maid of honor just ordered her dress for my wedding!!! :-D My favorite so far was the Jim Hjelm dress that Miss Lily picked, but my MOH was leaning against the idea of getting an official bridesmaid dress so we kept looking - and then today she found this!

Maid of Honor Dress! : wedding bridesmaid dress new york Dress dress.jpg
[from Bloomingdales]

She is ordering it in mist Maid of Honor Dress! : wedding bridesmaid dress new york Dress2 dress2.jpg without the shrug (it has spaghetti straps underneath.)

After many, many years (well, okay, maybe just months) of searching, we FINALLY found a dress with a style that we both love, that is actually in the color I wanted! Since we are only having a maid of honor and best man stand up front with us, the maid of honor dress was really the only place (other than flowers) to get my color scheme vision across during the ceremony itself, so I reeeeallyyyyy wanted her dress to be the right color and it turns out it’s perfect! Keep your fingers crossed for us that it’s just as perfect in real life (they only sell this style via internet and the catalogue so she couldn’t try it on first.)

I am sooo excited!!! Time to add one gigantic checkmark to my list! :-D

Is anyone else using non-bridesmaid bridesmaid dresses?

I LOVE the dress, Miss Bluebell! I would wear that NOW! The color is beautiful. As for non-traditional, does a burlap sack count as non-traditional? Cause that’s what my MOH will be wearing if she doesn’t get into looking!

Hahahaha, I’m sure things will work out eventually with your MOH Miss Kiwi!!! Just tell her you’ll order it for her “if you don’t have time to go shopping with me.” :-)

I just wore this one, as the MOH (and only bridal party member) in a wedding this weekend: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2870972/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6001799~6001809?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6001809&P=1

I wore it in chocolate, and I hope to have occassions to wear it again. :)

Yes absolutely. I’m going for price here since both my BMs are still in college. I think vendors hear the word wedding and equate it with a 25% markup! So we are going to go shopping for “prom,” “homecoming,” and “dresses to wear to a friends wedding” to see if that doesn’t soften the blow a bit. I’ve also been checking department stores. Also, I’ve been looking for cheap dresses that are close to what I want, figuring a cheap dress with a few alterations may still be cheaper in the long run.

Way to go with that checkmark!

I love it! I cannot wait to see pics when it comes in because I think it will look divine in that color! I am also using sort-of non-traditional BM dresses. I told my girls they could pic any navy or navy/white dress they’d like. So far, I have one from Forever 21 (but it is cute for my 17-year-old sis, I promise), and two from Jcrew. Funniest part is that neither of those are actually one of the Jcrew BM dresses, but other sun-dress types! Good thing too, as the BM ones are pricey…

In one of the weddings I was in we wore Ann taylor Loft dresses; they were great!

I picked an Ann Taylor Dress that isn’t very “brides-maidy.” There is a photo in my knot bio (linked to my name). I love it and one of my three maids did too. The other 2 said they wouldn’t wear it again, but when it went on sale from $188 to $99 (with free shipping) it just couldn’t be beat!

Now the challenge is shoes! The Ann Taylor shoes are very pretty, but they are $98. Also the girls are all much taller than I am (only 5′0″) so I want them in low heels. Any ideas? Gold or brown…

I think that’s a great dress. ! Its conventional….and she’ll be able to wear it aftre the wedding.

Yup, Im just like you…i prefer the non-traditional bridesmaid dresses. I actually got my dresses at Windsor Fashions and all I have to say is…they carry a wide selection of beautiful dresses…for a decent price too. My dresses were each $130 too..so I didnt break the bank. All my BMs were able to agree on a dress that I also fell in love with. This is a great store for brides looking for non- traditional BM dresses. Good luck.

Thank goodness its from a huge department store because if it isn’t as great as the photo it will be a snap to return.

Crossing my fingers that its as perfect as the picture!

Congrats on finding such a great dress! That would have definitely been a contender if I had found it while looking for bmaid dresses. We ended up purchasing non-bridesmaid dresses as well - you usually get better quality for the price this way, as well as something that doesn’t look so costume-y. We found some amazing Nanette Lepore cocktail dresses at a local boutique, who worked out a discount for us.

Ours is a ‘bridesmaids’ dress, but doesn’t fit the typical stereotype of one (at least you can wear a regular bra with it!), plus it was $110 through netbride :D
