Wedding Websites

February 6th, 2007 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Raspberry

Recently I discovered the convenience of clicking on someone’s name when they comment on weddingbee, and seeing where it takes you. Sometimes it’s their knot bio and sometimes a personal website. I’ve noticed so many of you have wedding websites (we have one too), and I’ve loved checking them out and seeing the pictures of your planning! Also, it is fun to put a face with a name. :)

We made our wedding website so that it has links of things to do in the area for our guests, driving directions and maps, a place for them to upload their photos, and a blog where I keep our guests informed of where we are in the planning process.

There seems to be many options for free or inexpensive wedding websites (like on the knot), but we actually created our site ourselves. Miss Strawberry asked who designed my invitation website, so I’d like to recommend Martin Zager if you’re looking for someone to build a site or blog for you. He does great work - you can see his website here, and his own wedding blog here.

So what about you guys… Who, why and how did you make your wedding website?

I chose to do my wedding website through WeddingChannel.com. I thought about designing my own website (you can see my personal portfolio at http://www.webdesigns-by-jm.com/portfolio ) but since I am so busy with school, I didn’t want to fool with making my own. I also like that everything is in one place here.

Initially i designed our wedding website using iWeb. However, as we have gotten deeper into planning it we decided we needed something that was more us. So, last night my FI started to design our new wedding website in Flash. He does illustration, graphic and web design for a living, which works out well for our website! When it is finished it will have our wedding motifs incorporated into it and some animation too!

WedORama.com — it had just started, so it was only $5 for a year… now it’s $35 with a coupon or $70 normally.

I didn’t have either of my wedding websites set up here on Weddingbee, but I’ll put my Knot planning bio on there now. Anyway, I have the aforementioned Knot planning bio, which is for anyone and everyone to see, *except* for my guests, if that makes any sense. I don’t want our guests–most of them, although not my mom, sister, and very best friends–to see my gown, my colors, the flowers, etc. I want it all to be a surprise. My fiance and I also have a wedding website he set up for our guests. Although he’s a freelance web developer, he did it in Wordpress so I could easily add blog-style entries (although I’ve been pretty lazy about it.) It has directions, our registries, other things on there. We put the mention on the save the dates, but that’s going to be it, it’s tacky, I think, to mention it on your invites. (And since I got the final OK on what I wanted for my invites from White Aisle, I’m going to order them this week. Yay!) My fiance also set up a blog for me called The Wedding Curmudgeon, but I haven’t had any time to work on it. I think it’s never going to get off the ground. :(

I too wanted to create mine from scratch but didn’t have time so I used ewedding.com. It was the most convenient, simple, and I liked the layouts. It even had guestbook, blog, album, and RSVP features. We had the website printed on our invitations and thank you cards so guests could see pictures after the wedding as well. I plan on taking the domain over and making it our personal homepage to keep our family updated since we are moving out of the country soon. I also found a coupon for it online using google.

Wow there are so many! If you click on my name it will take you to my wedding planning blog, but I just yesterday set up a wedding website for my fiance and I. It’s totally unfinished, but I used mywedding.com - they have some gorgeous templates and it’s free to use. I’m all about the free stuff!!

We are just using the free Web site from The Knot. We really just need it for posting directions, phone numbers and like, so it serves that purpose.

My name had been linked to my personal/work website (I’m a jazz singer) - http://www.lindseymuir.com - but I just changed it to my knot bio.

We made a wedding website which I’ve had a great time creating. We used a yahoo’s site builder (http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com) and I loved it. They have a number of templates and we just bought our domain name and didn’t have to have something like theknot.com/outnames. We plan on keeping the URL and using it in the future to share vacations, baby pictures, and whatever else is going on with us. We included the website on our STD’s which we mailed on Jan 3rd for our Sept. 8th wedding.

There are a few slide shows (engagement photos and photos of our family and friends), event info with maps/directions, our gift registry, a “what else?” section with ideas of things to do in the area with links to their website and photos of us at a few of the suggested locations, how we got engaged and more info and photos of the wedding party.

we created our own wedding website because we wanted to do a lot of things that the standard templates won’t allow. early in the planning stages, we thought it would be fun to share our different perspectives on the joys of wedding planning, so we created a he said / she said blog =P we also have a guests page where people can pre-RSVP, and as they do, their photo automatically appears on the site. cool, huh? =P
we put our URL on our save the dates, so our guests check back often to see how we’re coming along with our planning who is planning to attend our wedding. it’s so much fun =)

flip flop girl…i love your site! i think the “he said, she said” feature is the best…i may have to “borrow” the idea in the future.

I decided to code our wedding website by hand. However, it keeps getting put off and isn’t completed yet. :(

Bridal Fever is misrepresenting photographers by posting stock photos on profile pages not created by the photographer. Along with misrepresenting their work sometimes the contact information is not accurate.

They are forcing photographers to sign up for the site to override the stock image or edit their incorrect information and offer no ability for the photographer to remove their profile.

The administrators are also leaving negative ratings against photographers who complain about the policy. They are selectively editing any positive comments which support that photographer.

This company abuses public information under the guise of a non-profit and should not be trusted with your information.

It comes in quite by itself, in a highly interesting and puzzling manner, being forced upon us by entirely different considerations. ,
