Cheese!

February 7th, 2007 @ 1:57 pm by Mrs. Bee

I never realized how crooked my teeth were until we got our wedding proofs.

Exhibits A & B: (I apologize for the poor picture quality, they’re actually pictures I took of the proofs)

Can’t really tell? Here’s an extreme closeup of my teeth.

What the?! It looks like I have buck teeth! 8O

I always thought that my teeth were pretty straight. When I look at them from the front view, it’s hard to tell that they’re not. But looking over pictures from every possible angle on my wedding day, I realized that yes, my teeth are indeed crooked.

One of my top front teeth is actually chipped from when my brother pushed me off a four foot ledge when we were kids. I landed on my mouth and half my tooth broke off (ah yes, sibling love). I’ve had it repaired several times, but it just gradually chips away over time. My lower teeth have also become crooked - something that commonly and naturally happens to people in their late 20’s my dentist tells me.

I’ve been wanting to get invisalign for some time, but it’s not covered by insurance and I’m not sure how effective it is. Has anyone tried it? I’d like to have a nice straight smile. :D

Are you having any dental work, besides whitening, done for your wedding day?

I actually had braces a year ago (at the age of 24) because I knew I’d be getting married in the next few years, and I wanted to have beautiful teeth for my wedding photos (and in general). I looked at getting invisalign but they told me it would take 2 years! I bit the bullet and got braces. I only had to have them on for 7 months! Knowing my personality, I knew I wasn’t going to keep the plastic retainer on all day long (I like to snack a lot) so I think I made the right choice with the braces. It was also much more cost effective. That was just my experience though!
(by the way, your teeth look fine!)

Yup, i’m doing invisalign. I definitely see a difference, but I”m on tray 7 of 10 and it’s not perfect yet. Also, it’s not so invisable.

My MOH used invisaline and it works pretty good for her. I didn’t even notice them on her teeth when she wore it. She has to wear her retainer just so her teeth don’t shift. I still wear mine even after 10 years of wearing it. After a couple of nights of not wearing it I can feel my front teeth shifting.

I think she’s happy with the results though like you her teeth weren’t that crooked.

I won’t be doing anything special for the day of. People always tell me I have really white teeth. I think its the peroxicare (baking soda) toothpaste that I have used for years.

Two of my front teeth (not front and center, but the next two out on top) are too small in comparison to the rest of my teeth. I had braces in middle school, but had since developed gaps there. I was told that it was because of the size of the teeth and that no braces would help the gap. I’ve been increasingly selfconscious about them, so I had them bonded. They added tooth colored material to the sides of them. They match my teeth perfectly, and no one even notices. My mom and dh didn’t know until I told them I’d done it. So obviously, it never mattered to anyone but me. But luckily, it was a quick and inexpensive way to make me more confident on my wedding day and forever.

They can break off, but I’ve had them for almost a year and not had any problems.

I actually used Invisalign because I found a coupon through Weddingbee last spring! I had a gap between my two front teeth that kept coming back after braces and bonding, and I knew it would bother me in my wedding pictures, so I wanted to fix it.

I wore the trays for about 4 months and then had small wires put on the back of my front teeth so they won’t shift and I don’t have to worry about wearing a retainer.

Since my teeth weren’t too bad, I was able to use Insialign Express, which is normally $3,000. The full Invisalign can cost up to $5,000 I believe, but I would guess that you could use the express version. Unfortunately, my insurance didn’t cover it either, but I’m SO happy with the results — I’m more confident and don’t hate all my pictures — that I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I actually work with in the orthodontic industry and Invisalign is very popular these days. It works very well, but is a bit pricy.

I plan on using $20 chrest white strips. God blessed me with really good teeth but they can always be whiter!

I got braces 2 1/2 years ago for the same reason as Christina. I wanted Invisalign but insurance didn’t cover any of it so I went with ceramic braces (white/clear brackets) on my top teeth and regular metal braces on my bottom teeth — took 2 years and a couple months (felt longer!) but now I’m so so glad I got it done.

I guess all those times my mom tied a string to my tooth and the other end to the doorknob has actually paid off. My teeth aren’t perfect, but they’ll be just fine in pics….I’m using the Crest Whitening Strips now and I gotta say it’s working quite well. Coffee Stains be Gone@ =)

I’ve had braces for over two years now. I didn’t get them for the wedding (I wasn’t planning on having one even that long ago) but now I’m glad that my teeth will be all nice and straight for the wedding. They were so bad before, it’s not even funny. But I’ve never had a cavity! So they were crooked as hell, but healthy otherwise.

Did braces (lasted 9 months) last year. Worth every penny and hassle. Wear retainer religiously!!! Got same thing as shefroggie. It’s much faster and cheaper than invisalign.

As someone who works in the field, I have been told that there are some limitations to what Invisalign can do. Since your other tooth is fractured, I would consider other options such as all porcelain crowns. They are very esthetic, would restore the left tooth and could possibly mask the misalignment of the right tooth. Something to consider…

i had braces in high school [along with glasses...at the same. i was such a geek. lol] and knowing how often i didn’t wear my retainers, which were like the invisalign trays, there’s no way i would have made it. i needed something i couldn’t take off. my retainers hurt my teeth so i couldn’t sleep at night with them on [which was when i was supposed to wear them]. but if you can handle it without the urge to take them off, they could work.

thanks for all your input! i know braces work faster, but i can’t imagine having braces - ceramic or not. i think i definitely want to do invisalign sometime in the future, but for now it’s one of those things that are a luxury. :P

I’m kind of in a different boat than everyone here. My teeth are pretty straight. I’ve never really had a problem with that. But, I do have fluorosis and it has cause brown lines and splotches on my teeth. It’s very noticeable and I’d love to get veneers before the wedding. Sadly they are going to cost around $5,000 and that is more than our whole wedding budget!

I actually have braces right now for about 6-7 months now (clear on top). I’m 26. I’m still waiting to get the bottoms. I’ve always needed them but my parents were never able to afford it back then, so I am paying everything out of pocket ($4000+) so I can have perfect teeth for when I get married and in general. I feel like having crooked teeth has added to my shyness. I was embarassed at first when I got them but I am used to it by now.

I will be using white strips in the month or two prior to the wedding.

my roommate had one of her front incisors knocked out and when the doctors stuck it back in, it was totally crooked, really a classic “snaggle tooth” that kind of poked out even when her lips were closed. (although in her case a snaggle tooth was much better than no tooth at all!)

she got invisalign to push it back into alignment and after about two years, her teeth look perfect.

i had regular braces in high school, and if invisalign will work well with your teeth and you can afford it, it seems like the best way to go. flossing and dealing with brackets and braces shredding the inside of my mouth was a real pain. and my tooth enamel is rather thin, so the cement from the brackets left very faint (only i notice, but still) rough marks on my teeth.
