Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Leafy Save The Dates

February 7th, 2007 @ 12:16 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

As with most things, we started off not needing to order STDs (Save the Dates). Then I realized I should send one to my brother Shawn and his wife in Australia. So with that idea, I thought I’d just make it. Then we realized Mr. Kiwi has a ton of relatives up north who also need an STD, so we just decided to order them. Being the cheapest of cheap asses, I figured we wouldn’t need anything special, just a postcard would do.

Luckily, a friend turned me onto Prints Made Easy, where I was able to get two-sided postcards with a glossy finish. You can either use one of their templates, or import your own image.

Since they had a background of fallen leaves, I figured that would be perfect! We added “Amber & Paul have fallen in love… and are getting married! Please Save the Date, November 3, 2007. Culver City, CA Invitation to follow.” It’s all centered and not crappy looking, despite how it looks just written here. On the back, it’s just a regular postcard with our return address and the accommodation information. I didn’t bother to take a picture of it, because it’s uber boring.

I paid $39.90 for 100, including shipping- which took literally 2 days. I ordered them with the glossy finish, and it looks awesome! Of course, they are close to impossible to photograph, but here ya go!

Tea, I LOVE the postcards. They’re very thick, and don’t feel cheap AT ALL. They’re fabulous. :)

I used printsmadeeasy.com too! I actually ordered samples from about 8 different places and theirs were the highest quality for the lowest price, even though I didn’t need all 100 post cards. I used my own image and when I got them back (1 day early) the coloring was slightly off (partly my fault). My fiance didn’t notice, but I am extremely anal, so I wrote to them about the problem. They had a graphic artist re-do the coloring and are re-printing and shipping new ones to me for free!

I actually created about 10 different STDs on PowerPoint last night using different pictures of my FH and I as the background and then throwing text on top of it. Some of them came out really well, except when I showed them to FH he didn’t like any of the pictures enough to send to everyone. So we will wait until we do engagement pictures and use one of those I guess.

But thank you for posting this site, it will definitely be very helpful for me and my cheap ways/tight budget.

What are you going to do with the extras? Is it OK to send STDs to everyone, even if they’re not travelling cross-country? Is there an etiquette rule about that?

Kandace, gotta tell you- we are inviting 150 people, and since most of them are at least a couple, if not with kids, I think we’ll have plenty to send to everyone (couple/family) on the list! I also have no idea on etiquette about this, can anyone chime in?

Hi there! Also, try vistaprint.com They run specials and if you time it right you can get postcards for FREE, just pay shipping. I use them for my real estate business all the time, they’re nice.

I designed and ordered large magnets from there, and designed and ordered matching envelopes. They weren’t free, but still pretty cheap.

As for to whom they should be mailed, if they get a save the date, they have to get an invte, so we narrowed it down to just the people that there are no chance whatsoever we would want to cut. Really, they’re supposed to be for people that need to plan to come from far away, but fiance’s family was driving us nuts with “when were you going to tell us you picked a date”…so we’re sending them.
