The One That Got Away

February 7th, 2007 @ 5:05 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Waay back last summer I blogged about Anne Klein’s “Lola” shoe in powder blue, and how much I loved it. It disappeared off Zappos shortly thereafter, and I was very very sad… Lola has the perfect heel height, an adorable peep toe and ankle strap, and classy look that just screams “Miss Blueberry!”

I’d been very, very sad that I missed my Lolas.

Today, I was browsing Endless, what looks like a new internet shoe store. I discovered that they carry my beloved Lolas in taupe. I was *this close* to ordering them, when I decided, just for the heck of it, to see if anyplace else had them, maybe at a lower price…

Then, Zappos revealed…my Lolas are back!!!

1:15 pm. Location: my living room, on my couch, watching TV Guide channel. Browsing the Internet, drinking apple cider.

Blueberry: “ZOMG!!! My Lolas! In blue!!! What should I do?!?!?”
Othello (cat): “Mrow?”
Blueberry: “You’re right! I should call my mom!”

~ring ring~

Blueberry’s Mom: “Blueberry’s Mom speaking.”
Blueberry: “ZOMG!!! MOM!!! Remember my Lolas? They’re back!”
Blueberry’s Mom: “I can’t buy them for you.”
Blueberry: (hysterical) “That’s OK! Just tell me what color to buy! Should I get taupe? It matches more stuff, and is more sensible. But it’s the blue that I fell in love with many moons ago.”
Blueberry’s Mom: (getting irritated) “You should get the blue. Because if you don’t, and you love the taupe, you’ll always wonder if you would have loved the blue that much more.”
Blueberry: “You’re right! Thank you so much!”
Blueberry’s Mom: “That’s what moms are for. Can I go back to work now?”
Blueberry: “Bye!”

The Lolas should be mine, and are slated for delivery tomorrow. The tension is mounting, my excitement is growing…oh how I love my Lolas! I just hope they fit–I had to order a 6 because they were out of 6.5.

O yeah…and I’m not “allowed” to wear blue shoes to the wedding (”What will Grandma think?!?!” admonished Miss Bluberry’s Mom), but these puppies will be on my feet at the rehearsal dinner! And both my showers… and when I go to the grocery store…and sitting around the house…

Oh how I love my Lolas.

Just curious, what *would* your grandma think about blue shoes? Are colored shoes considered inappropriate just because they’re not white, or because they insinuate non-virginity like non-white dresses used to (which I don’t think really applies anymore since almost all brides wear white dresses and a great number aren’t, well, virgins)?

Oh, wah, you love ‘em so wear ‘em with your wedding gown. Grandma has better things to do than lift up your skirt for an inspection. Enjoy!

Hehe you guys are too funny! Cat, my grandma is 90 years old…’nuff said. She has a rather antiquated sense of propriety, and to do something as “radical” as wearing colored shoes at my wedding would show a lack of class on my part, in her opinion. Pssht.

And Iris, I lol’d at the image of my grandma peeking under my skirt to check out my shoes. :-P

Well, if it’s a question of propriety, maybe white for the ceremony and blue for the reception! By then you’re already married, and it’s DANCE time!

Congrats on finding your Lolas! I just wanted to let you know that I bought a pair of blue ones from DSW in the clearance racks so if the 6 doesn’t fit, try there. I’ve seen a few pairs. (They were about $20)
