Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

A Forever Band

February 8th, 2007 @ 5:21 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Wedding band ordering is right around the corner (in fact, Mr. Kiwi’s is already ordered, sans engraving) and I’m stumped on engraving. On one hand, I love the idea of our date and initials being engraved into our rings, good for heirloom reference. I think it would be great too, if it helped Mr. Kiwi remember the greatest day of his life. :) It’s also traditional, and very classic! I often vary between wanting something that has significance mpw, or something that will last forever.

On the other hand, I adore the idea of a special phrase or nickname between you two. Makes it personal, and special for just you to know. What if your nickname is something foul? For instance, Mr. Kiwi calls me “Boobies.” Yes, it sounds silly, but the way he says it, “Hey boobies, how was your day?” makes it a little more normal. I think. The only really special phrase is “Guess how much I love you?” and usually followed up with, “Thiiiiiis much.” While I like that, it’s kinda long for a 3mm wedding band.

Right now I’m also going through various romantic movie quotes - ones from movies that have a special meaning, like “Love Actually,” “50 First Dates” and “The Wedding Singer”. Yes, those movies are funny and heartwarming, but I can’t really find any ring-worthy quotes.

Many songs have been scoured, including Shania Twain’s From This Moment and Elvis’ I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You. Shania Twain’s song has the most beautiful words like “From this moment, life has begun. From this moment, you are the one,” which is one I’m loving. But - it’s Shania Twain, who has no significance to us.

Even though Miss Bluebell is The Pollmaster, I have a ring engraving poll for you:

What did you choose to engrave in your ring?

If you don’t mind, what did you engrave? Why did you choose that?

We’re just going classic/boring - initials & date. There are a number of heirloom pieces in our family and I just love the idea of our rings being a part of that tradition! But I do get envious sometimes when I see the cuter things. :-)

I realized I should have added “nothing”. Sorry!

Nothing here. I still don’t get why we should. The idea is not to take your ring off.

So… I hadn’t even thought about whether or not to get our rings engraved. I IM’d my FI and asked him if we were going to. He responded with. Sure… lets put “do not remove”.
I laughed so hard… but it isn’t such a bad idea. Perhaps combined with the date.

I put a special phrase that is also a song title. It’s a country song called “Look what I found” (you should go look up the lyrics now) and it mirrors our relationship, so that’s what his ring says!

My husband and I met, fell in love, got a place together, got engaged and got married all inside a year. It was just one of those “when ya know, ya know” kinda things (which I never really believed in, BTW) We are so similar and quirky in the same kind of ways, both of our families were like “well if this is not a perfect match- I just can’t imagine what is” We used to say that it was so obvious we were meant to be together, it’s like, duh! So that’s what i engraved in his band …. “it’s like, duh”

I’m getting the coordinates of where we met on his ring. It is masculine, but still romantic. I think he’ll love it!

We are getting ours engraved on the outside. Okay, I guess it’s not really engraving at that point, it’s part of the ring design… anyway, it’s the Greek for “and the two shall become one flesh” (a phrase that appears in Genesis and in a few places in the New Testament).

I got married on the 20th, and I hid the engraving from him until the day of — “Do Not Remove . . . XO.” He (and his groomsmen) loved it! So did the ladies at Bailey, Banks, and Biddle. I love the coordinates idea! My father-in-law suggested “Made in China” after he saw mine. I was really sappy about all the other details, and I think this was a welcome relief for my (now) hubby. :) Good luck!

I want to have “we’ll be standing here for the next 100 years” engraved on his band, but might do “Next 100 years” in binary… he’s a nerd! :)

“Wrapped in You” The day after we got engaged, we were at a Pat Green concert. When he played Wrapped, though a little bittersweet, it made Alex think of me. And it was that easy.

I suppose the rest of the lyric might help: Summer gold or winter blue, wherever I am, whatever I do, I’m wrapped in you.

What if you put “Guess how much I love you?” in your band and “Thiiiiiis much” in his…just an idea :)

I want to put “Bigger than the sky”– my mom used to tell us she loved us bigger than the sky, and now FI and I say it to each other.

sarah and tanya: that is too funny! what a clever idea.

we haven’t talked much about engraving but i imagine he will want to put ‘te adorar’, which is portuguese for ‘i adore you’ b/c back when we were dating and we weren’t quite ready to say i love you, he came up with that instead (he lived in brazil for a year and speaks portuguese) and now for us, it does mean ‘i love you’ :)

and the date is always good for posterity. (and helping him remember the anniversary :)

We just did our wedding date. However, at the jewelers, we both got our date wrong! It’s a good thing we got it engraved.

my boyfriend and i have two phrases we always say to each other. when we first started dating we bought the muppet show dvd and the first song they perform (other than the theme song) is “mahna mahna”. i told him that i think “mahna mahna” means “i love you” and we started saying it instead of “i love you”. the other phrase is “yarn barn”. one day we were getting gas and across the street there was a yarn store with that name, so i exclaimed “YARRN BARRN!” and now it’s our nickname for each other, like “mahna mahna my yarn barn.”

Mine says “I am my beloved’s…” and his says, “… and my beloved is mine.” It’s our wedding verse: Song of Solomon 3:6. He came up with it and a I think it’s sweet.

I’m not sure what we’re putting. We may have that be our “gift” to each other on our wedding day, seeing what the other engraved in our rings.

I put a cute phrase.. mine has “lots…” and his has “lots and lots…” because when we say i love you the other says “how much?” and we respond “lots” and the other says”lots and lots?”

I am not sure but I am thinking of using the title to our first dance song, “Accidentally in Love” because we never thought we’d fall in love. It’s true! It was a total accident. So I think that would be cute.
And Miss Kiwi, I think it would be cute if you engraved “This Much” on the ring. You would both know what it means.

We did the first two lines from the song we danced to on our wedding night. His says, “It was written that I would love you,” and mine says, “From the moment I opened my eyes.” The song is “Calico Skies” by Paul McCartney.
