I want to do the postcard to save on envelopes and postage. Sounds good, right? But I’ve also heard that postcards are not treated as first class mail by the post office, and therefore are not treated with the same care. When I think about it, all the postcards that I have sent to people have taken forever to arrive.

Do any of you have experience with this or any thoughts? Is there any truth to this, or just a rumor?

Thanks for the post. I’ve been wondering the same.

I sent my Save the Dates as postcards, and of the 100 I sent out, only one was delivered in bad shape. I’m using response postcards, and I’m confident that it will turn out okay.

at work, we send out postcards for reminders for our patients and some call in the day after they get the post cards to make appointments.. and we have patients who live out of our area too, but i dont know about out of state or whatnot…

fi INSISTED on cards and envelopes for the same reason. no idea if it’s true or not, and i didn’t particularly care one way or the other, so cards and envelopes it is!

We did neither…we provided an online and phone RSVP via an insert.

I did postcards and they were fine! Granted I bought the USPS $.63 wedding stamps which also come with an equal number of $.39 stamps. Instead of buying additional (but cheaper) postcard postage, I just used the stamps that matched. I didn’t have any that got lost or crumpled.

Hope that helps!

I just sent myself a test RSVP postcard and I got it the next day, so locally it was fine. It’s something to look into though.

We wanted to do postcards to save on the postage and envelopes costs. But, it looks like we are going to be using the design-your-own option that you can buy at the craft stores. They come in sets of 50 and include invitations, envelopes, and response cards with envelopes. It would be silly to waste all of that, even though FH is still not keen on spending the extra postage money (even though in the long run it’s still cheaper than ordering invitations, envelopes and response postcards from any place we’ve looked into). But I think I will try to compromise with him and do response envelopes with postcard save-the-dates.

My save-the-dates went out last week and two of them came to their recipients in three pieces with a note from the USPS sayign “sorry we ruined your mail” I’m worried more of them came accross that way!! I dont know what could have caused it, I had the right postage on it, hand cancelled them myself clearly, the envelope was stiff with the cardstock in it, and the addresses were clear so. . . what gives USPS?!

thistle, i think sometimes they just get stuck in the machines. i’m not sure. my dad never really gives me a clear answer and he’s a mailman!

I used postcards and other than having a little extra ink on them, they all came back very quickly. Except one, which my neighbor put in my mailbox for me and then the post office took it and didn’t bring it back. And I made my own out of cardstock.

I’m doing RSVP postcards, but they’re going to be 5″x7″ oversized ones with regular postage. So hopefully they’ll arrive just like regular mail. Why am I doing that? It’s the option with the invites I’m getting from White Aisle. I could probably ask Rebecca from White Aisle to change it for a different price, but I dunno if it’s worth it, I’ve already customized my invites so much!
