Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • frustratedfiance wants to know what you think of your FI going to strip clubs, not for his bachelor party, but just because. She can’t be the only girl who loathes them right? Please give her words of comfort!
  • lilpetunia is trying to figure out whether the address of the guest and the retun address need to be the same font.
  • seattleaug11 is looking for navy/sapphire heels for her bridesmaids, but they need to be manmade (no leather or silk). They’re wearing tea length dresses so you can see the shoes. Any suggestions?
  • Dani met with a great caterer and wants to know how to approach her about a tasting. Do they pay? Just ask?
  • Joann wants to know who helps de-decorate your site once ceremony and reception are completed? Is that the responsibility of the site vendor, florist, or bridesmaid/groomsmen?
  • jan77 is looking for iron on monograms for some totes she’s making. She’s looked at Amazon and Joann’s but hasn’t been able to find them. Any suggestions?
  • WL is looking for photographer suggestions in Paris.
  • SMCN is looking for suggestions a 10 piece variety band in DC that’s up-beat, has a horn section, both male and female vocalists, and gets guests dancing without being cheesy.
  • janie is trying to find an affordable venue that offers an outdoor ceremony and reception area for 300 guests. What is the norm pp including hors douvres and dinner? Can she get anything under $100 in the SF area?
  • jasmin is looking for the best place to buy wedding insurance.
  • DI is looking for a Cantonese/Mandarin/English speaking DJ in NYC, and is trying to decide between guitar and a string quartet for an outdoor wedding. Any suggestions?
  • snoobie wants to know how much ferrero rocher are at costco or how often they go on sale at Rite-Aid/Walgreens. SHe doesn’t want them to go bad before her September wedding.
  • Joan wants to know how much you can negotiate on catering prices in NYC. Is there any bargaining room if prices start at $125 a head? Any advice if you can negotiate if its a destination wedding?

frustrated fi, i had a lot of guy friends that went just because so it doesn’t faze me too much but i’m sure i’d be a little jealous if my bf would go. thankfully that’s not his scene but if it makes you uncomfortable, have you talked to him about it?

lilpetunia, i don’t think it really matters, but i would make them the same for the sake of uniformity. but i also notice little things like that [like how the corner of one invite my sister got was uncut unevenly]. if it doesn’t bug you then don’t worry about making them match.

i also have a question to add. what’s the best way to word that the bride would prefer that RSVPs be emailed to her on the RSVP card?

Tea, i don’t know if there is a proper way, but I’d make it cute, like “the bride and groom are so excited to celebrate their day with you they don’t want to wait for snail mail, so please email your RSVP to: ___”

frustrated fi - I think I would be more than a little upset if this was an issue in our relationship. I think it’s time for a big sit down convo. I wouldn’t stand for that. Especially knowing we were about to get married.

Joann - I have paid my caterer and florist to do clean up. Each will clean up what they did to “decorate” the hall. I didn’t want to make my family have to clean up the church or the reception hall. Although that is an option.

frustratedfi-My boyfriend used to go, till he started dating me…he said he didn’t need to. On the other hand, one of his best friends goes, WITH his fiance. I guess it all depends on the couple. However, if it is something that bothers you (trust me, it would bother me too), he should respect that.

jan77–try searching for “iron on patch” or “iron on applique” and you should come up with a lot of results :-)

Or, to save yourself a bit of trouble, you could just order totes via LL Bean and add monogramming for something like $5 extra. I have a “small” tote from them with long handles, that is the perfect size for me to take to the gym, market shopping, etc. Here’s a link to some of their totes:
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=totes&categoryId=5236&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1

I love the multicolored ones they just came out with!

hth :-)

seattleaug11- Check out Zappos. You can choose by color and heel height. Paylessshoes.com and Payless shoe source carry less expensive brands including dyelights, which are manmade.

Joann- My family cleaned up the decorations we wanted to keep. The venue took care of everything else. It was part of their standard contract.

Joann-
As a day of coordinator, I make it my job to make sure that everything is cleaned up. If you don’t have one already..maybe look into one. :)

I am having a hard time finding a band in the DC area. Our first choice was booked, second choice is unavailable to perform on our date, and our third choice was booked out from under us! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! We are looking for a variety band that is up-beat, has a horn section and both male and female vocalists (approx 10 pieces). We also want a band that will engage our guests and get them up dancing with out being “cheesey”. Thanks!!

FrustratedFI- my fi goes for other guy’s bach parties… he jokes about going with some old coworkers, but he never does. I did set up a ground rule. If he did go, he has to come home right after and give me a “good time.” :) But we’ve gone together before too and it was a lot of fun. My fi made a good point about why guys go to stripclubs for bach parties and other social events: When their dates aren’t around, their conversations don’t go much beyond sports, news, work, and their girls. After the initial hour or so, it gets awkward, so they get drunk and go to clubs to have something to look at together and comment on. I think it’s pretty harmless, but if it was a frequent event, I’d be concerned. However, it it really hurts you, then you should talk with him. It really depends on what his motives are for going to the clubs.

Hello! Hoping someone could help with the below two questions
1) mandarin + canton + english speaking DJ’s
2) guitar vs. string quartet for an outside wedding

ps: j crew is having their “big final sale”; bridesmaids dresses are CHEAP if you can find your size - also a $199 silk and simple ivory wedding gown!
