A Peek At My Wedding Ao-Dai

February 12th, 2007 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Plum

Custom-made by Minh-Thu Ao Dai in HCMC, VN
128 Tran Huy Lieu St, Ward 15, Dist Phu Nhuan, HCMC Vietnam
www.aodaiminhthu.comIt was so easy - I just described what I had envisioned / wanted out of my wedding ao dai and she did the rest. It is made of brocade, silk, organza, and beads. Oh yes, of course - the best part - it was SUPER FREAKIN CHEAP (like pretty much everything else in Vietnam). For the whole thing, including fabric, design, labor, hand beading, custom detailing, khan dong (hat), etc - I paid $135 USD.

It still needs to be taken in a bit because I lost some weight after I got back from VN. (It’s crooked bc I’m lifting one of my arms….)

They are very pretty! I thought the traditional colors were red and gold. Did you choose blue because of your preference?

Toki - yes I did - although red and gold are the traditional colors, many brides nowadays choose to wear other more flattering colors/or their favorite colors. :)

beautiful colors! i wasn’t allowed to wear blue (my favorite color) because it was labeled unlucky, according to my inlaws. i luv the pale blue. it’s totally gorgeous.

I will be taking pictures in a wedding ao dai shortly, how do you do your hair for the khan dong? does it fit snuggly on ones head or like a headband?

Miss GreenBeen - I am wearing my hair piled up on top to fit thru the hole in the khan dong - it does fit snugly on your head - it is made to measure according to the circumference of your head - :( unfortunately, this means i have to get my hair done TWICE in one day - one for the khan dong then again for the american ceremony in the white dress :)
