KitchenAid

February 12th, 2007 @ 12:59 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

For months, I’ve resisted the alluring call of the KitchenAid stand mixer. I had convinced myself that I didn’t really need a stand mixer since my hand mixer works just fine, that I’d never find a use for it.

But then I discovered….the attachments.

Maybe I’m the last idiot to figure this out, but they have attachments for everything from ice cream making to pasta making. Wow!!! It’s like 554 bajillion machines in one!

So I caved, and we registered for this beauty:

KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus Series 5-Quart Bowl Lift Stand Mixer

Drool….

Is a KitchenAid stand mixer of some sort on your wedding registry?

Abso-freakin-lutely!! I have been drooling for one of those, but would never fork over that type of $$ for myself. I’ve always known that this would be one of the MUST HAVES on our registry!!

I actually never even wanted one, but my FMIL said that I just HAD to register for it. I’d “never want to use a hand mixer again.” I guess I’ll have to see if she’s right :)

We didn’t register because my mom bought me one as a college graduation present before hand. It is WONDERFUL. I made like 10 dozen cookies in the first week I had it just because I could. :)

That is literally the only thing I want on my registry, and since the only other things on there are petty things like towels and sheets, I’m hoping my family all pitches in to get one :)

I have the ice cream maker attachment and it rocks. Also, my mixer is pink.

Couldn’t have a registry without it, it’s my must have item. FI’s is an outrageously priced expresso machine. We have bets going as to who’s going to get their item. I think I’m going to win… :-)! The wager? A night’s worth of cooking AND cleaning up (normally we split duties).

I love it, but it was just too expensive. I couldn’t bring myself to put it on the registry. I’d love a Dyson vacuum, too, but same deal there.

We put a much less expensive standing mixer on ours. It’s $100. We can get the uber expensive stuff on our own in a few years.

why is it so much better than a hand mixer? maybe i don’t bake enough, but it’s not like i ever get tired from the 3 minutes of using a hand mixer… someone please explain!! :)

I LOVE MINE!! I never thought I’d get married and didn’t want to wait to register for one. So….I bought one on my own a couple of years ago. But, I bought it online from amazon and paid 1/2 of what it cost in dept. stores, plus free shipping. Shop around…if you really want one you can find one!

Sandy, it’s not just the using the hand mixer being tiring. It’s that you can add ingredients while you mix, it’s settings are better than a hand mixer in terms of range of speed, and it’s easy to over beat with a hand mixer. Also, the fact that it is this solid thing that works on its own makes baking such a pleasure. Cake is no problem, but try making cheesecakes (my specialty) with a hand mixer - it stinks!

I registered for it and got it. I love to bake so it was definitely something I was drooling over. I use it alot! I absolutely love it!

Nope. I already have one. I got it for christmas years ago from my parents. I have to say that it is the best and favorite thing in my kitchen…and will probably always. :-)

make sure it’ll fit on your counter and that you’ll be able to flip it up if you have cabinets above your kitchen counters!

or else opt for the smaller size one!

i bought myself the pink one years ago and i LOVE it!

I got mine for Christmas when I was 19, because I’ve always loved baking. In my head, if it’s such a ‘must-have’ then you probably would have already bought one yourself by your mid-20s. I really think a lot of people get them and then rarely use them, and if that’s the case you are just as well off using a hand mixer.
