My Guests’ Advice For Newlyweds

February 12th, 2007 @ 11:02 am by Mrs. Orange

(from my sister who also designed the invite; me and Mr. Orange)

We asked our guests to write advice for the newlyweds on the back of the RSVP postcards. My MOH suspected that this may actually delay the arrival of our RSVP’s, and she was very very right. We have not received RSVP’s for 50+ guests as of yesterday, our RSVP deadline.

But, some of our guests did take the opportunity to give us great advice, and I’d like to share some of it:

  • Don’t do it twice (as in marriage)
  • Eat during the wedding (very important!)
  • When you’re having a disagreement, hold hands - it keeps you from saying hurtful things you may regret later (from an ‘06 bride)
  • Keep a journal together and take turns writing in it, once a month. We chose the day of the month we met (any significant date so you don’t forget) and have written every month for past three years. It’s fun to read about our fun times and even what we’ve learned from the bad times.

Hi Miss. Orange!

I want to send out the same blank RSVP postcards.. Your postcards look great with your sister’s design. Thanks for the FYI.

nice bits of advice. we were planning on doing the same thing, and that’s a good point on the RSVP’s coming later. i’ll have to consider that…

The delay might not have been for that reason. I’ve heard other brides talk about similar lack of rsvps :P

Awww, the holding hands advice is so cute. I too have heard of delays in receiving rsvps so I wouldn’t worry too much.

I really like the holding hands advice. I wanted to do the same with my RSVP postcards to ask the guests to write a little something for us. :)

ha! i talked my brother into asking his guests to share “factoids” about themselves on their rsvp cards so that they could make an interesting display at the wedding with them. everyone delayed their replies–including me! it was too much pressure to be clever.

I’ve actually done something similar with my invitations, only I’m including a separate enclosure card with the request to include it with the RSVP or bring it to the reception site (and I’m going to have extras there too.)
