Hair Trial I

February 13th, 2007 @ 1:07 pm by Mrs. Apple

I had my hair trial yesterday with Michelle, the owner of The Secret Salon. I’ve been going to her to get my hair cut for the past year. She’s brilliant with layers and was technically trained at Tony & Guy over 10 -15 years ago. Walking into her salon yesterday, I definitely had a solid idea as to what kind of style I wanted and what would look best on me. For sure I wanted a loose low bun with soft curls. I have a really round face so a bun that sits above the height of my ears would accentuate my round face even more.

With print outs in hand, I showed her some updo’s that I liked and this is what she created. Overall, I’m happy with the low bun and the curls (a little messy but I think for the day of she’ll clean it up)

I also really wanted a full bun so it would be proportional to my big head (ha!), so I purchased myself hair extensions from Sally’s Beauty Supply. Michelle pinned these extensions near the nape of my neck, hair sprayed it, curled it, and then pinned it some more. Repeat. Without these extensions, it would probably be 1/3 less full.

After looking at my hair trial photos and also a suggestion from my MOH, I really need more poof in the front - it seems a little flat you think? Also, do you think the placement of my flora hairpin looks best there or closer to my right ear?

Here is some of my hair photo inspiration.

I want the fullness of her bangs and crown just like Miss Pretty Scarlett.

Again more poof on the crown of the head.

The ever so popular but so very pretty low loose bun.

definitely more POOF - because your hair will start to fall down towards the end of the night anyway.

i think it looks loose and romantic and really complements your hair pin! scarlett’s hair in the second pic is a more structured look, but beautiful nonetheless. i think it’d look great on you! :)

i love the red pin on you. i think it looks great, just make sure it stays put, because although i love the look, it looks like it might not stay all night as advised by mrs. butterfly.

Definitely a little more poof in the front. I like the hair pin placement in back, so its drama but not too much like if you could see it from the front. Like miss violet, I worry that it is a little loose and maybe would not stay all night. Maybe your bun should start a little higher, be a little more secure? Less potential for bouncing, which is the end of all hairdos…

I’m curious as to why you have the pin on your right side? I thought the “looken or tooken” thing from Hawaii puts the flower by the left ear (same as your e-ring)… Just curious!
I think it looks great, but you are right, it needs a bit more poof. :)

thanks everyone, more poof ! got it! I might just try another hair trial with a different stylist to get a better feel on who i like better.

Angie - you know I never really thought about the symbolic reason (place flower on the left ear). I just thought it looked better on my right ear (haha). Whenever I take photos, I expose the right side of the face and neck because it elongates my face more.

I’ll try it on the left though. thanks!

If you wear it on the left it is not going to show up in many of your pics or video of your ceremony. Typically the bride stands on the left and the group on the right, so when you face each other towards the center it will be your right side showing.

Helllooo!! I don’t think most people will think about the significance of one side vs. the other, so whichever side looks best — put it there. I know for me, I’d definitely put it on the side of my face that I feel photographs better hahaha. :) Looks cute Barbara! I agree more poof at the crown, though — that will help add length to your face too (we talked about this way back.. I have the same issue!!). First pic from the back looks gorgeous!
