How Did You Meet?

February 13th, 2007 @ 3:11 pm by Mrs. Hibiscus

I was 18 years old when I met the love of my life. It was a Friday night. All the roommates were out and I was bored out of my mind. My new friend Matt (who I had known a total of 2 weeks) called me and asked if he could bring his friend Adam over. I thought nothing of it and allowed these tall, strange men into my apartment.

When they arrived, I was dressed super sexy in an oversized superman shirt and plaid boxers (ooh la la). The three of us spent the whole night playing Crazy Taxi. Matt was so awful and was extremely upset I was better than him. Adam and I teased him and made each other laugh the entire night. We made the stupidest jokes but we couldn’t stop laughing. There was always a connection between us, but I honestly never thought at the time I was with the person who would be making me smile and laugh everyday for the rest of my life. It’s funny thinking back how we always clicked as friends. Maybe we should have a Crazy Taxi arcade game at the wedding. haha.

How did you and your significant other meet?

I decided I wanted to visit San Francisco, but hadn’t been there since high school and didn’t know of anyone living in the area. I placed an ad on craigslist looking for a tour guide… we talked in advance of my trip by e-mail… and then by phone.. and we totally clicked from the beginning of the trip to the end. He visited me a month later and we took a road trip to the Grand Canyon, and 4 weeks later, I relocated to California. My family thought I was crazy (but luckily, it seems to have worked out! :) )

I worked at Wal-Mart in high school. I liked a guy in the electronics department and eventually conned him into going on a date with me. He was working his way through school too and almost 4 years later here we are! We both work at the same employer once again, but not the blue vested retailer.

It’s not quite as inspiring as my parents who met at the horse stables while shoveling horse droppings. They work together still too, but again not with horses anymore. They’ve made it 26 years so maybe the secret in my family is to fall in love with a co-worker and keep working with them.

we met in our freshman year mandatory english class… he was always late so that’s how he first caught my eye. i don’t think you could say it was love at first sight but it was love at first conversation. after exchanging numbers a week into the semester the first time we talked on the phone we talked into the night and close to the morning. from then on we were inseparable… to this day we can’t get enough of each others company– always a good start when it comes to committing for life don’t you think?

My boyfriend and I met at work also. He was on break from pharmacy rotations, and I was a freshman pre-pharmacy student. Somehow, we ended up at the pharmacy together. A couple months later we were dating. 3 years later, we’re still together.

ours actually isn’t very “good”–I was with my then-boyfriend! It was my freshman year of college, and my boyfriend and I were sitting in the dining hall, eating lunch. Mr Blueberry and a friend of his (they both knew my boyfriend) came up and sat down with us. The four of us started talking, then it was mainly me and Mr Blueberry talking…we started eating lunch together every day, and I’d hang out with him at his hall desk monitor job. A couple months later I broke up with my boyfriend at the time, and then shortly thereafter Mr Blueberry and I started dating. And the rest, they say, is history. :-) :-) :-)

I hate having to give credit to my ex for introducing me to Mr B, though. :-P

We met at work too. He was in law school and I was a senior in college. We both worked as servers in a restaurant to for extra cash. We never really worked together due to our different shifts, but he introduced himself to me at our xmas party. I thought he was a big dork. I knew he liked me but I didn’t think he was really my type. A few weeks later, I invited myself to his law school formal (he hates formals) and we ended up having a great time. Never left each other’s side since then. After graduation, I moved in with him. That was 3 years ago; we’re getting married this June!

I signed up to be a “buddy” for international student who was studying abroad at my university in Prague (czech Republic). Since there is less students arriving then those interested in being a buddy, they pair people up based on lottery. Once my number was picked, there were only two guys left, him and some other guy (”Andrew III”). All I knew about him when I picked him over the other guy was his name, the university where he studied in the US and that he was a guy. No picture, no hobbies, nothing. I picked my bf over Andrew, whoever that was :-O

We started emailing since it was still about 8 weeks until his arrival and even through the emails he was funny and kind. When I went to pick him up at the airport ( part of buddy’s duties ), I had butterflies in my stomach.

Long story short, it was love at first meeting. We were dating for 5 months in Prague, then travelled around the Europe once the semester was over. After he left to start a job in the US ( this was his last semester at the university), I applied for transfer and moved to NYC a year later to be with him.

Long story short, we have lived together since and celebrated our 6 year dating anniversary two weeks ago :-D

We met out at dinner one night with a mutual friend of ours. I had no idea that I was sharing dinner with my future mate either! All I can really remember from that night was making a really dumb joke that no one else laughed at but him. And that he was really cute :-) I finally worked up the courage to ask him out after seeing him around for several months.

We were both studying at a coffee shop near campus–independently, not together. Randomly he asked me to watch his computer. I thought, “wierd…” and when he got back we kept on talking. After a coffee/dinner/drinks date, and hanging out together for a couple of weeks we ended up being together all the time. I decided not to move back to the west coast after graduation, but stayed in the area to “see where things go.” We were engaged just before our 2 year anniversary. Hopefully in the next couple of months I’ll be alble to find a job and move to the same city and state as him and end our LDR.

I did a free trial at Match as more of a joke than anything and because I saw a cute guy on my first search. Nothing happened with him but within a few days I saw my FI’s profile, emailed him, and the rest is history. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever try online dating, much less meet someone that way!

We met in marching band. He joined Tau Beta Sigma, honorary band service sorority, of which I was also a member. Little known part of the story, I set him up with my little sister as a prom date and thank goodness it didn’t work out! Finally, a couple of years later, we cuddled at a football game and watched a movie two days later. After that we were inseperable.

We first saw each other my freshman year, his junior year of college at a joint glee club concert that our college host every Christmas. My college is all women’s and his is primarily men (and the glee club is all men). I remember seeing him and thinking he was cute, but I was in the freshman choir and he was dating a junior glee-clubber.

My second year the joint concert happened again, but this time I was the glee club assistant librarian (a fancy title for a job that meant I was in charge of housing all 80+ men). He was placed in my friend’s room randomly and I remembered him and tried to trade with her to no avail. He and I just hung out all weekend long and I actually broke up with my then boyfriend that weekend (he walked in on the break-up, akward). He had newly started dating someone himself. We stayed in touch b/c one of my other jobs was distributing CD’s of the concert to the men and he put himself in charge on his end of getting them out to the guys.

My sophmore year went by with a lot of back and forth IM’ing that always made my face light up and then I went abroad to Scotland for a year. When that year was up, I had an internship in DC and we spoke on the phone for hours every night and online all day long. He had broken up with that girlfriend at the beginning of the summer.

In the fall he came out to visit me after two years of not seeing each other. He was talking about me to his friends as “the girl I’m going to date,” and sure enough we did from that weekend on.

After I graduated I got a job in his area and we started living together a year after that. We’ve been together for four years and August 17 is oru wedding date!

we met through our blogs on xanga.

but it wasn’t until we started talking extensively that we realized we had MANY upon MANY chances to meet prior since we were on campus at the same time [i had already graduated and he's finishing up]. its a little “serendipity” mixed with “sleepless in seattle.” figures it wasn’t until after i left the state that i find the love of my life. :-)

We met through Match.com, this was after a year of dating losers (from online sources as well) and- here comes the cliche part- after one night of going on a date with a total dork, I came home crying and frustrated “I’m NEVER going to meet my future husband online”. Well, I took a little break and went back on, he winked at me and I emailed him, yada yada yada, long emails and phone conversations later, we met and have been dating for close to 2 years :)

We met in college, first day of sophomore year when our mutual friend introduced us (and is our Maid of Honor!).

It was “love” at first sight since before we were actually introduced he scoped my picture out on the sorority composite and asked about me. ;-)

We met at a scholorship interview weekend at our college while we were still in highschool. He has an older brother that attended the same school who I knew, so when I saw him standing alone during one of the cheezy games they made us play I went up to him and said, “You’re a lastname, aren’t you?” …Original, I know. The next fall after we both started school his older brother suggested that he “persue” me, and we got together a month or two later.

My parents, however, met when my dad hit my mom with a bottle rocket at a soccer game when he was in college and she in highschool.
