Open Question: Headband

February 13th, 2007 @ 2:13 pm by Open Question

Dear Wedding Bee,

I am looking for a headband similar to the one on the cover of the Fall Instyle Weddings issue. I love how delicate and cute it is! Here’s the catch: I am wearing gold jewelry so I need a gold headband. The only ones I’ve found are thick and garishly yellow gold. Any ideas on where to find a thin, simply embellished, light gold headband?

I realize this is a bit “needle/haystack-ish” but I trust you girls for advice!!

Thanks!
B from Chicago (Bride to be on 9/15/07)

It’s hard to tell from the picture what the headband is made out of–ribbon, elastic, beaded, jeweled, metal? If might be possible to go to a sewing/crafts store like JoAnn fabrics, etc. and make it if it is something simple.

did you check inside the magazine ? Often times they list who is the dress and accessories designer. Or contact magazine directly.

This is going to sound like a weird place to get your headband. But I found some thin metal ones (like the one in the pictures) at the grocery store (HEB, if you are in Texas). They come in a pack of 4 (for about 6 dollars) and I’ve been wearing two at a time to get the look similar to that in your picture. The only thing is the metal headband hurts after a while, but so cute for pictures!

I’ve wrapped thin ribbon around my hair for a similar look and just tied it at the nape of my neck and cut the ends…I agree, hit the craft stores.

i would investigate metallic ribbon or even try fashioning one yourself from gold wire and some embellishments. I had a hairband for my prom which was a plain metal band with wire wrapped in little sprigs at points around it with little crystals at the ends? Alternatively, can you not just spray the silver ones gold? Good luck, it’s a beautiful look xx

I’m from Chicago too! I actually saw a ton of these type of headbands at the Nordstoms on Mag Mile. They ran about 150-200. And I saw silver as well as gold. (about 1 month ago.)

Do you have an Aldo near you? Specifically an Aldo Accessories?
I got a very similar headband there for $10

stop in a local bead store and they can most likely make you on - if they are cheap enough, buy 2 and spray one gold just too see what happens - i tried a store “Icicing” it is kind of like a Claire’s Boutque…I am intereted in one too so i anyone sees them, please post the link. Thank You

It’s kind of a random place to find them, but this fabric website sells some bridal things as well. The link should take you straight to a 3mm thick, gold metal headband.

Personally, I would just buy a cheaper one from Claire’s or local craft store, but they aren’t always there when you want them. This site seems to be pretty consistent.

Good Luck all
