Unique Touches Part 1 - Cigar Catering

February 13th, 2007 @ 5:22 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

Everyone wants ways to personalize their wedding. But the same ideas seem to get passed around and around, and most people don’t want their friends and family to feel like they are at just another wedding.

I unfortunately was burned badly this weekend and am immobile at the moment, so I have been stuck at the computer. I’ve been doing a little research on different companies that offer interesting ways to give your guests something special. Todays is all about Cigar Catering.

Cigar Catering provides their clients with the unique service of a cigar roller for 2 hours during their special event. They personalize the label with your monogram or whatever you want on the 50 included cigars and you can add on more prerolled cigars also. The total cost is $975, with their website listing discounts in some areas.

Cigar Catering offers their services in 21 cities.

Are you doing anything really unique to personalize your wedding? Or is it too top secret to share? ;)

We are huge coffee drinkers, and are having an espresso bar at our wedding. While it is not super unique, it does reflect our love for coffee!

Sorry you got badly burned! I’m sure there’s a huge story behind that one, but I’m glad you’re at least semi-OK :-)

As for our personalization, well, what would you expect two chocaholics to do at the reception? 16-foot dessert buffet and 2 chocolate fountains, baby!!!

I love the cigar roller idea! I am still debating having an espresso bar.

I LOVE the cigar roller idea. My fiance’s family (him, his dad, and his brother) love cigars and I have toyed on and off with the idea of doing the cigar roller thing.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the rest of the guest list is as tobacco friendly and so I don’t think it’ll be appreciated (it might even be frowned on by some - like, my Mom!).

If the cigar rolling bar doesn’t work, I’m going to buy their favorite cigars and make my own personalized labels to stick on them and hand out at the rehearsal dinner. It’s the poor man’s way, but it gets the job done.

You were badly burned and are writing about cigars! What a dedicated Bee.

My sister and brother-in-law had cigars at the bar at their reception. He and his father are big into cigars and had hand rolled ones there for the guests to enjoy. It was a nice touch and the guys enjoyed it.

We are going to have s’mores at our wedding. We love making s’mores at home so when we found out our catering company has a fire pit and s’mores packets we were so excited. We figure this gives the non dancers something else to do. Plus, as my sis pointed out, it will make for some cute photos.

I’ve seen the cigar idea around a lot, especially on some of the Long Island wedding websites. I personally wouldn’t do it - it seems stinky and promoting smoking to me. Plus with so many places being smoke free, are your guests supposed to leave the wedding for the 20 minutes it takes to smoke a cigar?

We could only really afford a wine & beer bar, so we decided to turn that into a pro, rather than a con. I love beer, as do both our dads. When ever we go to FIL’s hosue he always notifies me of any new beers in the fridge to try out. So we decided that we would have a selection of 6 different beers so everyone could try something new, and get to know some of our favorites. We didn’t really spend anymore money than we would have had we just gotten one or two selections, everyone loved the variety, and it made the bar & even some of the bottle covered tables look more interesting, ha. DH and I even toasted with the official beer of our wedding- Blue Moon for our harvest moon evening reception.

Ok - not to be a party pooper but I feel the need to say something. My FI and I both have lung problems. It’s a huge issue if we want to go out to bars which are disgustingly smokey. We go out less and less which is really sad b/c we both are social and like going out for drinks etc. If you’re going to do a cigar roller at your wedding, please make sure it’s either outdoors or in a seperate room. At my cousin’s wedding last summer, all the smokers hung out in a downstairs room that had fireplaces etc. Worked out well, b/c the guys who enjoy the cigar thing could do so without disturbing other guests. I just think it’s important to consider that some guests may have health issues, and it would be a shame to make them decide to leave early. Not to mention a lot of people just don’t enjoy the smell of smoke, especially cigars. I guess if you know that your families and friends are fine with smoking it might not be a big deal, but it’s something to consider.
