Where To?

February 13th, 2007 @ 6:20 pm by Mrs. Lemon

While our registries are still quite bare, they’re at least on their way to be being filled with lovely gift options for our guests. But I ran across an interesting predicament while I was talking with my mom last night: where do we want people to send our gifts?

You see, I’m moving out of my little studio (which has no extra room) in June, a month before the wedding, to move in with Mr. Lemon. Then his apartment will be filled with my abundance of stuff until the end of August, at which time we’re making the big move to a place of our own.

We had instinctively put down his address in all of our registry info, but I’m thinking we might opt for choice x: sending them to my parent’s house in Northern California. They’ve got the extra room for boxes, and nothing will be misplaced or lost in the clutter of the move.

I guess the only thing that’s holding me back is my love of receiving mail and packages. I’d really like to be able to open each gift myself, and make the days up until the wedding a little advent season. But it looks like logic is going to win out here. *sigh* I guess I’ll just have to settle on getting phone calls about gifts arriving and resort to checking out our online registries more often.

Has anyone else had any trouble with where to send gifts before the wedding?

We rented a box at a local non-post office location for three months. It was enough time for us to have things sent there during the run up to the wedding through the end of the honeymoon. The other option is to rent a storage space until September, so you can get your move done in stages and still have space to walk through the apartment when you move in together. Additional benefit: the ability to go through your stuff and chuck what you don’t want to keep.

we’re in the same situation and decided to have everything sent to my parents for a few reasons. we’ll be at their house for at least 2 weeks before the wedding and if the gifts are there we can take care of any last minute thank-yous. they can also collect any boxes that arrive during the honeymoon so they aren’t left sitting outside our apt for two weeks. plus we don’t have any place to store things until we buy a house, but my parents have my old bedroom sitting there empty! I think i’m going to tell my mom not to open any boxes and fi and i can have a gift opening session when we go visit (it’s only a 6 hour drive so we go up fairly often)

we plan on moving out of state a year after we get married. we’re having all our gifts sent to his parents’ house which is the same state we’re moving to. the sucky factor: we don’t get to use our new stuff for a whole year. :(

My two choices were either my parents’ house or work addresses. :) Neither is the clear-cut winner but either works… so I guess it’s really a tossup!

We had everything sent to us at our apartment. I still have a pile of boxes containing china and appliances, towels, etc, but at least my parents aren’t housing it. I started out with my dad’s address on the registry, but when he got a gift and nearly opened it out of curiosity, I changed my mind. My cat misses her armchair though.

We’re having most things sent to his parent’s house in West Chester, NY. They still have a house whereas my parents both live in condos. In addition, they only have one kid left at home so they have loads of empty space. Our presents are currently stacking up in the corner of the best man’s old bedroom!

We are registering at Amazon.com for games and fun small things and that I’m having sent to my Dad’s condo. If we had a doorman I’d have had our apartment as the delivery address of that registry but delivery without a doorman is just a pain.

It’s too cute when my future MIL calls to say we got a package.

I think you should have them sent to me. I would be happy to receive, unpack and test all items for defects.

I love Nancy’s answer! I wish I were as cool as you sound! :)

I had ours sent to my parents with strict rules about not opening any of them (unless I knew it would be a while until I could get to them). That seemed to work well, and I really enjoyed my mom’s daily emails ( 3 packages today, one is really big! for example) almost as much as I would have enjoyed receiving packages! :)
