Beehive

February 14th, 2007 @ 4:15 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Laura is looking for the envelope liner template kit from Paper Source. It’s currently out of stock - is there anyone willing to sell theirs?
  • Joyful is looking for a great photographer in the LA area for engagement pictures.
  • chip is looking for a Jewish wedding ring similar to the one here but with the characters cut through. She’s found a bunch but they’re all around $500. Has anyone seen them for less?
  • Katie just got engaged this weekend! (Congrats! :)) She’s just beginning to plan and is wondering if you had unexpected costs that popped up and were not planned in your budget?

Laura, in case you didn’t get my comment in the last beehive:
You can make your own envelope liner in about 5 seconds. Get a piece of thin cardboard and cut it to the width of the liner. stick it in the envelope. Trace the flap onto the liner. Take it out of the envelope and cut out the flap tracing. Then you’ll have an envelope shaped piece of cardboard, which you will need to offset to leave room for the flap’s glue. Cut 1/2 inch off the non-flap side (or just line it up under the glue and trace the bottom of the envelope). If that doesn’t make sense, leave me a message on my xanga and I’ll send you a picture.

Chip, I don’t know if you are jewish or not, but if you are, that band with the letters cut all the way through can not be used for the ceremony. The ring has to be solid.

I got engaged this weekend!! Wahooooo!! We have started talking about budget, location, and everything that has to go into planning. I was wondering what items did you not include into your budget that you could warn a new bride to be about. Were there unexpected costs that popped up and you were not planned?

Katie - Congratulations! Once you’ve set a budget for an item, you need to include all taxes and gratuities in that amount. That tripped me up at first when I was looking at menu prices. Make sure to find out the specific gratuity that a venue charges because I’ve seen it vary widely, between 12% - 20%.

Another helpful tip: leave yourself a category in the budget that is unallocated money because there’s bound to be something little that will come up that you hadn’t thought of or didn’t realize you wanted/needed and you’ll be grateful you have some money to cover that.

KT - I didn’t really plan for beauty items (I’m getting new makeup since my everday stuff is really basic, plus hair cut and color, not to mention the updo the day of, plus the trial, and also a brow waxing, maybe a leg waxing, a pedicure and set of nails) ans I also didn’t consider the fact that stamps for the invites plus the RSVPs would come to quite so much.

Katie - If you look at a couple different budget tools, you’ll get a good idea of what you need. We ended up using the one on weddingchannel.com; I couldn’t get the one on The Knot to readjust when I changed amounts or paid something. The biggest items I found that weren’t in the budget were dance lessons and marriage prep class. I don’t think parents’ gifts are in the budget either.

I was curious if anyone had any experience with any of the Sandals resorts, and particularly the one in the Bahamas. Is it worth the money for the all-inclusive honeymoon?

For favors, I’m thinking of giving frosted glass coasters that is also a frame for photos. They come packaged in pairs though. Should I give 1 to each guest or a pair? If individually, then I would have to package/decorate them myself.

Hi there,

I’ve been looking for a bridal tiara/comb that looks similar to this:
http://www.perfectdetails.com/tiaras/3425-T.html

I saw a similar one at Kleinfelds for over $500. I love the tight details of crystals/pearls. Any idea where I can find one for under $150 (either online or in NYC area)?

Thank you!!
