Blushing Bride Guide

February 14th, 2007 @ 3:20 pm by Mrs. Emerald

I LOVE beauty products, especially makeup! They are my little splurges that don’t break the bank (ie $20 for lipgloss is definitely steep when you think about it, but cheaper than a $200 pair of shoes, no? haha winky).

For a while now, I have been enjoying one of the “holy grails” of makeup artists, Nars blush in Orgasm. While I like it and use it regularly, I have to admit that I am not blown away.

Blush

So this weekend while at Macy’s, I wandered aimlessly through the cosmetics section while Mr. E browsed the Men’s shoe sale. I paused at the Benefit counter and picked up the little bottle of Benetint. I have been eyeing this product for a while now, but always stayed away because the color in the bottle is just SO scarily bright red!

Benetint

The girl at the counter asked if I wanted to try some on, and I figured, “Oh, why not…” Big mistake, I’m sucha sucker for a sales pitch! So she taught me to swipe on a few dabs along the lines of my cheekbones and quickly smudge it into my skin. Voila! A perfect subtle rosy glow!! I was instantly sold (I told you I am a sucker). At $28, it’s not cheap, but I think this will last me a LONG time. It also works on lips, but I prefer it on the cheeks.

In my idealistic little head, I think this little jar will turn me into the iconic blushing bride on my wedding day blush

What is your one MUST wear beauty product for your wedding day? (I have tons but thats cuz I’m planning to do my own makeup).

Fake lashes!!! I have long lashes as it is but I just want the extra fullness that you get with fake one. MAC has the best because they dont look fake or silly.

i looove benetint, but the one that comes in a tube thingy. i use it on my cheeks in the summer. i also love the benetint lip gloss in a pot!

my one must wear was definitely flash eyelashes too. i’d stick with shu uemura or the asian brands. there are some really natural looking korean ones that are perfect for asian eyes.

I got Tarte’s Loving the fast stain kit from sephora which has a cheek tint that’s similar to what you got, and also lip tint w/ a plumping gloss. It’s great for me because I don’t generally wear much makeup, so I wanted things to look natural.

Black Mascara. I love the way it makes my eyes pop. I already have large eyes, but I love the way they look with black lashes and smudged black eyeliner. I use shadow as my liner so the line isn’t as harsh.

I totally agree with you about the Nars blush in Orgasm, its ok, but not orgasmic as far as a blush goes (but then what is?).

I splurge on concealer for undereye redness and puff. The one from Benefits is really good and so is the Fresh concealer. They’re like $30-$40.

i love the benetint too!! just be careful when you open it bc the top is REALLY cheap plastic and it WILL break on you when you force it to open.

Fake lashes. I’ve never worn them before but in my head I must have them on the wedding day.

My other thing is purple shadow as eyeliner. I have hazel eyes and this makes all the colors pop. It’s funny sometimes I do my makeup in the middle of the day and people actually stop me to comment on my eyes. It’s all in the shadow as eyeliner (although it sounds a bit tacky).

I was totally going to do fake eyelashes, but completely forgot until about 5 days after the wedding. Oh well, it was one thing I obviously didn’t worry about! :)

A necessary for me was my mint flavored lip gloss. Yummy!

I looove the Benetint! I’ve had it since college so it’s been like 6 years and I’ve only used half a bottle. :P I’ve actually got it lost recently and it’s old anyways, I’m planning on getting the smaller version this time! :)

OMG, I REALLY wish the salesperson had told me about the smaller pocketsize Benetint. At $18, thats a whole $10 saved! haha. Maybe I’ll exchange it =)

I love Benetint! I’ve been using the same bottle for over 4 years now and the only reason I only have 1/4 left is because I spilled some =( But it gives the perfect rosy cheeks without having to apply to much. I think it looks a lot more natural than powder too. I’m not really a lipstick or lipgloss person but when I feel like I need a little color I add some on my lips to get a subtle change.

Benefit has some really good products. Other products I like are Dr. Feelgood and Dandelion. Dr. Feelgood is a light foundation that works for all skin tones (I’m pretty tan and it works for me) and makes your skin look really smooth. I even got my mom using it! Dandelion is a light pink all over powder and gives a really soft look.

yeah I bought the same blush cuz there’s been so much hype, even though it’s nice, I don’t see why it’s a must have for everyone. It’s a little too subtle for my taste. But I use it, because I have it, also because damn it I paid good money for it

Concealer! The stress and travel induced skin breakout blotchiness, the reminders that it’s impossible for someone like me to go through a decade of life unmarked by a scar, the ill-rested blackend shadows under eyes? All unnoticable.
Concealer (aka primer), Foundataion (aka base coat), then the makeup (aka the masterpiece). For me, she suggested false eyelashes, shaping my eyebrows, dark eyeliner on both lids, and a light lip color. I wasn’t up for the first (but after applying mascara, she understood why), okayed the second, asked for the third just on the outer half of each eye, and a medium lip color.
While I would have looked good (at least until the false lashes went flying — I never could make them last), I felt much more comfortable with how I looked with the changes I requested.
As a suggestion/reminder: wear a button-down shirt for the day-of makeup, so you won’t smear by pulling something over your head. Also, if you’re doing your own make-up, get a cheap white t-shirt and practice. Repeatedly. Sometimes things that look fine when you’re wearing color don’t look so good when you’re wearing white. And if you’re practiced, you’re less likely to be shaking too badly to put on eyeliner on your wedding day.

i have a similar warning about the cap - also be careful when closing it. i had a bottle and tried to tighten it really well to prevent leakage and ended up breaking the cap.

I really like my Nars blush in Orgasm. In the winter it’s just the right colour for my really pale skin. I have to say though - in the summer when I have a tan it can be too light.
For products - I change my products all the time. I am a real make-up lover. I love Benefit stuff. My favorite products are Bad Gals Lash mascara and their eyeliner in tuxedo. That colour is so flattering for blue eyes!
I also just got this make up set from Stila. I think it’s called Stila on the go. The colors are really sweet and perfect for a wedding.

While I have used and enjoyed Benetint, my favorite blush is the gel blush from Clinique in Warm Glow. Since it is a gel it is really easy to apply and still gives that subtle rosy glow that is so perfect. Also, it’s only $12 a tube!
What I’m searching for for the wedding is some really great waterproof mascara. I love Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash, but it flakes off horribly on me giving me the worst raccoon eyes ever. Has anyone tried the She-Laq that goes with it? Is it worth spending the extra $ on it?

I have Benefit’s She-Laq and it does keep your makeup on, but it makes me feel really stiff in the areas where I apply it. I’ve tried it a couple times and have never really felt that comfortable with it on.
