I should know by now not to get my hopes up on Valentine’s Day. Every year, with or without a significant other, I always expect something sweet and romantic. This year was no different. I had asked Mr. Kiwi for one thing: flowers. He did get me flowers, but left them in his office overnight (he got them February 13th) without water. Then someone turned the heat on. Yeeeaaah. I had flowers that may have been lovely at some point. The sweet thing was, he bought flowers in our wedding colors. The boy tried hard. He also gave me a card, which is something new! I’m usually the card giver there, so I was pleasantly surprised.
After a sweet dinner of italian food at a restaurant nearby, we came home. Expecting some cuddling on the couch and watching a movie, I was a little miffed when Mr. Kiwi said, “I’m going to go lie down and read the magazine you bought me.” Screwed by one of my own gifts to him. I yelled back (only because he was in another room) “Don’t fall asleep!” So he fell asleep. I was left to watch TV by myself while he slept- on Valentine’s Day. To make my rejected self feel better, I scavenged his loot from his elementary school’s Valentine’s Day extravaganza. (By the way, kids give some GOOD candy now!)
While Mr. Kiwi slept, I spent an hour going back and forth from UPS to his wedding band shipper. For the past few days UPS has said “in transit” and then the delivery is rescheduled for the next day. Finally tired of this after three days, I called UPS. They lost Mr. Kiwi’s wedding band. I called the shipper who told me, “No, it’s in transit.” It took all I could to not crawl through the phone and rip his ear off. So, finally we got it straightened out that in fact, UPS did lose the package and they’ll put a trace on it. If we don’t get it by Friday I get a refund. Why not a new one? They’re sold out. What the hell, man.
After that, I decided to take a shower. As I was getting disrobed, my belly-button ring got somehow entangled on my jeans. So, I took my ring out. And I think this time it’s out permanently. I had a mild freak-out this morning when I realized what I had done, but whatever. This ring has been here since I was 18 (almost ten years), and it’s time to remove it, I don’t need it anymore.
So, although my V-day was a bust and I’m a little mopey, dinner was tasty! Other news, Mr. Kiwi said we may go to New York this summer! We may end up putting our honeymoon on the shelf until next year (due to vacation time), but that’s okay with me.
