Crappy Valentine’s Day

February 15th, 2007 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I should know by now not to get my hopes up on Valentine’s Day. Every year, with or without a significant other, I always expect something sweet and romantic. This year was no different. I had asked Mr. Kiwi for one thing: flowers. He did get me flowers, but left them in his office overnight (he got them February 13th) without water. Then someone turned the heat on. Yeeeaaah. I had flowers that may have been lovely at some point. The sweet thing was, he bought flowers in our wedding colors. The boy tried hard. He also gave me a card, which is something new! I’m usually the card giver there, so I was pleasantly surprised.

After a sweet dinner of italian food at a restaurant nearby, we came home. Expecting some cuddling on the couch and watching a movie, I was a little miffed when Mr. Kiwi said, “I’m going to go lie down and read the magazine you bought me.” Screwed by one of my own gifts to him. I yelled back (only because he was in another room) “Don’t fall asleep!” So he fell asleep. I was left to watch TV by myself while he slept- on Valentine’s Day. To make my rejected self feel better, I scavenged his loot from his elementary school’s Valentine’s Day extravaganza. (By the way, kids give some GOOD candy now!)

While Mr. Kiwi slept, I spent an hour going back and forth from UPS to his wedding band shipper. For the past few days UPS has said “in transit” and then the delivery is rescheduled for the next day. Finally tired of this after three days, I called UPS. They lost Mr. Kiwi’s wedding band. I called the shipper who told me, “No, it’s in transit.” It took all I could to not crawl through the phone and rip his ear off. So, finally we got it straightened out that in fact, UPS did lose the package and they’ll put a trace on it. If we don’t get it by Friday I get a refund. Why not a new one? They’re sold out. What the hell, man.

After that, I decided to take a shower. As I was getting disrobed, my belly-button ring got somehow entangled on my jeans. So, I took my ring out. And I think this time it’s out permanently. I had a mild freak-out this morning when I realized what I had done, but whatever. This ring has been here since I was 18 (almost ten years), and it’s time to remove it, I don’t need it anymore.

So, although my V-day was a bust and I’m a little mopey, dinner was tasty! Other news, Mr. Kiwi said we may go to New York this summer! We may end up putting our honeymoon on the shelf until next year (due to vacation time), but that’s okay with me.

How did your day fare?

Wow, you really win this contest. I have a serious nasal congestion and missed my dentist appt due to my car snowed in, but Mr. Orange managed to get me few long stem roses and we had a delicious meal topped with chocolate cake from Financier and watched “The Wedding Singer.”

from my xanga post this morning…

So my first attempt at gourmet cooking went well last night! It wasn’t the first time that I cooked for my FI but it was the first high-end menu, so to speak… and all [most] from scratch!

–Garlic Bread with Mozzarella Cheese (store bought)
–Bacon Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms
–Filet Mignon
–Buttered Lemon Asparagus
–French Silk Pie (Sara Lee)
–Strawberries and Champagne

as Rachael Ray would say– “Yum-O”

I have been sick for the last 3 weeks and took a turn for the worse yesterday. Poor fiance came to visit me and all I could do was lay on the couch.

Awwwww, Brooke, I’m so sorry!! I hope you feel better soon.

May, Good job, man!! I applaud you! I wish I could have cooked instead.

Miss Orange, at least here in Los Angeles we don’t have to think about snow. i honestly think I would mentally shut down.

Vic, it was a crappy day, but at least I have a plethora of dress-tightening candy!

for me, i wouldn’t say ‘crappy,’ but halfway through our romantic dinner, one of the most obnoxious people on the planet (seriously, he must be on some list) arrived with his gf at the adjacent table.

suffice it to the say the rest of the dinner was not romantic. pooh.

Sorry it wasn’t better!! I’m one of those freakish people who get more contentment out of seeing that what I picked out was well recieved, then out of opening something for myself. Though I appreciated the yellow rose (the first flower I ever got him), chocolates, and sweet card, the best part of my day was hearing that I totally outdid myself and that he was THRILLED with his present. I went out to Whole Foods during lunch (which was waayyyy more crowded than I expected, who knew that was the place to be on the 14th??) and grabbed up a bottle of champagne, a box of strawberries, dark chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. I came home and stuck in a card and tied the handles of the brown bag with some ribbon. No, I lied the BEST part of the day was laying in bed enjoying the stuff, and getting to be really romantic!

Aww…sorry your V-day sucked so much!
That ring-box-in-the-toliet story was ridiculous! I would be furious!
Well, I didn’t have that bad a day but there was a mild snow storm here in Philly which means my 30 minute commute turned into a 90 minute one so my plans for a romantic dinner at home turned into a frantic dinner at home as I tried to prepare a three hour meal in about an hour and 15 minutes. Needless to say, we were eating dinner at 9 pm while watching American Idol and then my new husband fell asleep on our first valentines day as married folks. So hot!
Oh, and due to the storm, the gifts we had ordered for each other did NOT arrive!
I did however get some beautiful flowers delivered to my office and my man got the hand picked, personalized box of See’s Chocolates that I had sent to him and he actually took them home to share!

Sorry your Valentine’s sucked, Miss Kiwi. Mine wasn’t too good either–I spent nearly the entire day in the emergency room. Not fun, but, my fiance and I were together all day. Long story, but I’m chronically ill, and have been suffering a flareup, and my doctor wanted me there for tests. But they didn’t find anything, and although they wanted to keep me overnight, I wanted very much to go home. Valentine’s Day, after all. We were gone about ten hours, total. The only good part of the day: my fiance never left my side. I kept urging him to go to cafeteria, to the bookstore, but he wouldn’t leave. I am such a lucky woman.

And, even though we had agreed not to spend much money on Valentine’s Day with the wedding coming up, he gave me a membership to his gym. Normally I’m an outdoor runner, but I got a free pass there during the recent Artic blast, and I enjoyed it. It’s a very sweet present, as we can go together now. And hopefully by my wedding day my arms will be less flabby!

Pencils, sorry you weren’t doing well. :( Being sick sucks, huh? I’ve got this weird disease, too, but after being tested it was negative. So I’m a blank for them. :)

I’m sorry your v-day was the pits, too. You have a very sweet Fiance, though. Feel better soon, now!
