How Valentine’s Day Played Out

February 15th, 2007 @ 5:15 pm by Mrs. Plumeria

Let me start out by saying we’ve never been really big on celebrating holidays together. In fact, the first year we were dating, we didn’t even remember our one year anniversary until the day afterwards! And when it comes to birthdays, it’s not uncommon for our gifts to each other to not be a surprise. Yeah, I know, boring. Last year, we didn’t do anything for Valentine’s. This year, though, we did both do a little something nice for each other, and I have to admit I really enjoyed the special treatment. :)

Over the weekend, I visited Aran’s Colour and Glaze Studio, a little paint-your-own pottery place in the small city of Castro Valley, in the East Bay Area. Aran’s has been a favorite place of mine to go to to relax and let some creativity flow: aspiring artists pick out a blank, unfinished white piece of pottery, paint it with the provided materials, and return to the studio a few days later to pick up the final, glazed piece. The beauty of the whole process is that the result is a one-of-a-kind and personalized gift, and it’s fun, too! (Hmm… bridesmaids’ gifts, anyone?) I made a mug there a long time ago for Mr. Plumeria, but it has since gotten chipped, and Valentine’s was the perfect excuse to make a new one. Last time, I did an abstract, bold graphic across the entire mug. This time, I decided to make one that he would love: a Super Mario brothers mug!

I picked up the finished mug yesterday, right before I was going to see Mr. Plumeria, and I think both of us loved the results!

Mr. Plumeria was thrilled with his new mug, and I was happy, too, because waiting for me with him was a huge bouquet of thirty tulips and a cute card from Papyrus, filled with handwritten sentiments that mean more to me than any bouquet of flowers ever will. :)

Wow…your mug turned out really so good! I recently went and painted my first piece of pottery a couple of weeks ago. A piggy bank for our wedding fund..haha…and it was tough trying to figure out how I wanted to design it. I also think it’s a great personalized gift and my FI loved the piggy bank!

Rather than register for china, why don’t you get to work and create all your dishes to match that mug?
