Finally, getting off my patoot regarding flowers, I sent an email to my flower prospect. I’m sure I’ve blogged about this previously, but I needed a florist who would be willing to do just the accessories for the wedding: the bouquets, the boutonnieres, the corsages and two wreaths.
Now, even though we already have our photographer, a parent at Mr. Kiwi’s school gave me a card for a photographer who did their wedding years ago. When I got home, I realized there was a name scrawled on the back. It was a flower company! I spoke with Lisa (the parent) about who this was, and she said it was a lady who did flowers out of her house - after going to the LA Flower mart in the morning, she’d arrange them herself.
Since she doesn’t have to get the flowers from a dealer specifically, there is no overhead. Her price will be the labor and the cost of the flowers from the mart. This is exactly what we wanted, but we were unable to find it. I mean, you don’t usually look under “Ladies who arrange” in the phone book.
So I sent her an email telling her how I got her name and that I’d like to meet with her. I then tallied up what exactly we needed:
One (1) Bride’s Bouquet
One (1) Matron of Honor’s Bouquet
One (1) Groom’s Bout.
One (1) Best Man Bout.
One (1) Father of the Bride Bout.
Two (2) Mothers of the Bride/Groom Corsages
Two (2) Flower Girl Wreaths
One (1) Package (?) of rose petals for the flower girl
Then I told her that we were unsure about the ceremony site requirements, since it’s in a freakin’ tent. So I said we may need arrangements for that, but were undecided. I also listed our wedding colors and the flowers I preferred: roses, calla lilies, ‘mums, tulips, freesia and gerber daisies, possibly with some hypericum berries.
When I gave her the list of flowers I liked, I also told her what I imagined for each bouquet: in mine, cream roses/tulips with white/reddish orange freesia, a few rust callas, and maybe a sweet pea for my grandma (her fave flower). My MOH would have mostly callas and maybe some tulips (I heard they don’t do well as a bouquet because of the weakness of the stem in heat) or gerber daisies. The men? Maybe a rose and hypericum with freesia for Mr. Kiwi and a mini calla for the Best Man. The mothers can have corsages of roses with freesia or berries, and the flower girl a wreath of daisies, maybe. Still unsure, but that’s a rough guesstimate!
So, I’ve yet to meet with her, but she sounded excited! The best part? She’s in my hometown! Hope this works out!
