About Mrs. Kiwi

Mr. Kiwi’s Wedding Band

February 15th, 2007 @ 3:02 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Is no longer with us.

A few minutes ago I got a phone call from a man in Culver City. Apparently he had ordered a toilet from Texas via UPS. His first words were “You may think this is a very weird call…”

The basic details are: his toilet was delivered yesterday. Inside the toilet was a package. With a ring box inside. An empty ring box. Yes, the package had been ripped open and the ring stolen. They were kind enough to leave the box. :) And the packing slip with my phone number on it.

The man called me and gave me his name and phone number so I could call UPS and let them know. While this is a utterly crappy situation, it’s nice to know that there are some decent people out there.

I will update you on the UPS response!

AW MAN!! that SUCKS!! dang it! i’m hoping for the best for you and mr. kiwi. hopefully UPS will give you the cost of the ring. you still have time to find a replacement ring. so sad for you though.

at least the man with the toilet was kind enough to let you know what had happened.

OMG that’s horrible!
Finding your ring box in another man’s UPS Package [a toilet of all things] means that it was stolen by a UPS employee… sad! I hope the package was insured and that you’ll at least get something comparable. But that wasn’t very nice!
I’m sorry!

So, his ring didn’t go down the shitter did it?

I am sure UPS will make things right and that we will be able to laugh about this one.

Hey guys! Oh, I’m sounding calm, but inside I’m making myself a homemade ucler! I am TOTALLY spazzing, but I realllllly appreciate the sweet guy who called me this morning. I had to talk to two people at the ring place and about 4 at UPS. And had to explain to every single one of them that NO, it is NOT in transit, the box is in someone’s TOILET and the ring on someone ELSE’S hand. :)

CRIPES. I’m sure it will all be worked out, though. In time. The ring place won’t refund until AFTER UPS has determined the package was never given to me. How else to determine it? Maybe go to the guy’s house to see the ring box? :)\
Jeez.

I hope the ring company is working with you, technically it is their responsibility- the shipper has to put the claim in with UPS- I hate UPS sometimes, at my company we have 1-2 losses or returns every 6 months, so I have to deal with them since it is our problem, not the customer’s. I hope you find a great ring too!

The shipper did insure the UPS package correct? I deal with UPS everyday through work & they can be difficult so stick to your guns!
*Just an FYI for everyone*
UPS will only reimburse $100 if the package was not insured. So make sure to ask for insurance!

Good grief!!! What a strange story- but how nice of the ‘toilet’ guy to let you know what had happen. I’m pretty much speechless for you- I hope everything works out.

Crazy story! I’m paranoid about dropping my e-ring in the toilet, but this puts a whole new twist on that!

That really sucks. So weird. Well, if you believe in karma, then I don’t want to know what the ring theif has in store for them… stealing a wedding band and putting the box in a toilet? Tsk tsk.

[...] Still, it helped to know it wasn’t stolen yet (Back in February Mr. Kiwi’s wedding band was stolen). So, at about 1pm I hear the familiar sound of the UPS scanner outside our door. I accidentally [...]

Catching onto this story much, much later, I just wanted to say that was one of the most bizarre wedding snafu’s I have heard! So upsetting! You were such a cool cucumber, though, and I saw your other post about the replacement ring, and love it!

UPS able to offer you anything?? Insurance, explanations, etc.?

How different are the rings? Or did you go with the same kind??

Linnea,

It was definitely a crazy thing! UPS didn’t offer us anything, not even an apology! I actually didn’t even hear a follow up, either, now that I think of it!!

The rings are a leeetle different, but not by much. Mr. Kiwi seems to love his band, so I guess it all worked out okay? :)
