Beehive

February 16th, 2007 @ 3:43 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  • Cindy is looking into having a destination wedding in the Caribbean or eastern Mexico. She’s in NY, and is looking for recommendations for good wedding planners that do destination weddings.
  • Min is trying to plan a bachelorette party in Miami and is looking for hotel recommendations (she’s heard Ocean Drive is the best). She’s looking for a place that’s clean, close to the clubs and shops (no car), and near the beach. Any recommendations on things to do, and clubs to visit would be great!
  • Joan is getting married in Switzerland in September, but she hasn’t sent out STD’s. Is 6 months ahead of time enough for her NY crew to come or is it just too little time?

Check out Whitelaw Hotel, its the hotel where me and my girlfriends stayed at, we got around the clubs by walking or taxi and its close to shopping/beach/restaurants. Very cute hotel!

Min - The last time I was in Miami for a wedding, we stayed at the National Hotel (pricier than most I think) and partied at the Shore Club. It was awesome!

Cindy - I am in DC and getting married in April in Grand Cayman. I 10000000000000% recommend Danielle at Octopus Events - go to http://www.octopus-events.com.

Cayman is a great destination for us - not too far from the US, a huge range of hotels for our guests, and very low crime. Super-easy to get married there as well, minimal paperwork and no residency requirement.

1. My reception venue, Florentine Gardens, is providing me with a maitre d’ for the planning process. However, I am getting married off-site at a church. Do you think I still need to hire a day of coordinator for the ceremony? Does the maitre d normally fulfill the role of a “day of” coordinator?

2. Any recommendations for organist, trumpist, string quartet… any kind of musicians for a ceremony in Northern NJ?

3. My fiance and I would like to do both the traditional Chinese tea ceremony and the Korean pyebaek ceremony — suggestions for timeline on the wedding weekend (doesn’t have to be day of)? We’re getting married on Easter weekend, so we also have to squeeze in Easter Sunday service!

Thank you in advance!

In Grand Cayman both Octopus Events and Joanne Brown of Celebrations Ltd. are fantastic!! Joanne and her company were featured on a 6 episode series on Travel Channel last year called ‘Weddings Away” - their website is http://www.celebrationsltd.com and they also have lots of real weddings featured on the new Cayman Islands website at http://www.caymanislands.ky click on Romance and then Real Weddings. Two incredible photographers in Cayman are http://www.RebeccaDavidson.com and http://www.DavidWolfephotography.com - which is rare for a destination wedding - you usually have to fly your own in!! Good luck!

OK … so maybe I’m getting married in Switzerland in September … But I haven’t sent out STDs or anything. If I send them 6 months before, is that enough time for my NY crew to come, or is it just too little time?

Is anyone interested, or know of anyone interested, in purchasing a new flowergirl dress ( US Angels, style 432- size 5) in white. We bought white thinking that it would be ok even though the bride’s dress is ivory. It is too late to change the order (according to the saleslady at the store), so I am buying another one in ivory. I will receive the white dress in the next week or so. Here is a link to the picture of the dress. We ordered white with white sash. http://www.usangels.com/collection_detail_432.jsp i also have a better picture of the sash on the back from the store. if you are interested, please e-mail me at antispambox@yahoo.com Again, it is a NEW dress, NEVER worn. The dress was $150 at the store, but I had a $30 coupon. I will sell it for $120 and will not charge for shipping. It really is a beautiful dress. Thanks for your help.

My fiance and I bought an invitation kit for our invitations at a very low price. He printed off an example but it only included 40 RSVP & envelopes and 40 invitations & envelopes… is it ok to not have an 2 outer envelopes? Is there anywhere that I can buy another outer envelope for a cheap price? The invitations are exactly what I wanted, but the envelopes look cheap! Please HELP!

Min– Last time I was in Miami we stayed at the National too. We got a great deal at libertytravel.com. It is on Collins rather than Ocean Drive. We were very happy to stay where we stayed because we were close to the Delano and the Shore Club, and the hotels on Ocean Drive seemed not quite as nice and were in a REALLY noisy area. Also, our hotel had a private beach and I think the Ocean Drive hotels do not. I think we’ll be staying at the National again for my bachelorette!

joan, I think you still have time to send out STDs, though you definitely have to send them out soon! Ppl will have to make travel arrangements and ask for vacation time, etc. and you can get those tasks done as late as 2-3 mths before the wedding date. Start spreading the word now so they know to mark that date, look into hotel/flight deals you can get to help out your guests, and send out a formal STD within the month.

Dear lisabaobei,

Paebaek ceremony needs to be right after your church ceremony and it’s not appropriate to hold it any day before or after that. From what I gather, the Chinese tea ceremony is to be held during your ceremony, as an extension of it. So, it looks like you will need to accommodate all that into one day… If you can rent a separate room at the church, it’d be great to have Paebaek there while your guests are enjoying their cocktail hour. Although Paebaek ceremonies are traditionally held between the families, it is very interesting to open this up to your guests who may want to check it out - if so, include this informal invitation in your program.
Make sure you have light refreshments and snacks for people who stick around… also make sure you have at least 2 Korean maids to help you with getting dressed properly (standard protocol), bowing, and receiving your introductions from the groom’s family…
As for the Easter celebrations, also state it somewhere ahead of time (perhaps a website like The Knot), that it will be a full service on that day… there’s nothing worse than guests expecting the ceremony to last 45 minutes and it ends up lasting 1:30 hrs. and they hadn’t had lunch!
Hope it helps…

For Miami… def. go clubbing at Mansion. (www.mansionmiami.com)! We had soooo much fun there. For restaurant, go to Nobu and Chima Brazilian steakhouse.
