Contest: Weddingbee

February 16th, 2007 @ 2:49 pm by Contests

Mrs. Bee here!

We have 10 weddingbee logo t-shirts to give away! And since yesterday was Valentine’s Day, I thought we’d do a contest about love. Tell us about a favorite memory or time that you shared with your significant other, whether it was the day you met, a vacation you went on, or just something random and silly.

My favorite memory hands down is the first week I met Mr. Bee. I was in New York on vacation and once I met him, all my plans changed. Mr. Bee says he only had 4 days to make me fall in love with him, and I guess he was successful! We love to recount where we went, what we did, and how our relationship progressed that intense first week. :)

I can’t wait to read your stories too, so please share your favorite memory of you and your SO with us below. You have until 8:00 pm EST today to enter. Good luck!

On our first valentine’s day together, I snuck out of bed early (at like, 5am) to use the restroom, as quietly as possible so as not to wake him. When I returned, a mere 1.5 minutes later, I found that he’s not only gotten up, but had chocolates and gifts and such ready and waiting for me.

My favorite memory with my SO is the day we met. We were both freshman in college at the time, and we had to go see a Shakespeare play for a class we were both in. I got to the theatre early, and waited around for the doors to open. I noticed a guy kinda walking around in my peripheral view, and I saw that at one point he stopped his watch (by pulling the little thing out). He then walked up to me and said, “Hi, you’re in my class right? Do you know the time?” I didn’t want to let on that I knew he had stopped his clock to talk to me, so I gave him the time. He sat next to me throughout the Shakespeare play, and explained various aspects of it to me (I’m not the most cultured person :P) and we ended up staying up all night afterwards talking about random subjects. At some point, I guess we both realized we had met someone special…and the rest is history! I still smile when I look back on that day. :)

the first valentine’s day with my fiance, was my junior year in high school. He told me he didn’t get me anything the night before so I was very bummed out on Valentine’s day. So I went to school and when i attended my first class there was this big stuffed animal on my desk. I was wondering where the flowers and the card were at but… there wasnt any. At that time I didn’t know how to drive so he took me home. He took me to the park and told me to put my stuff in the trunk so no one will steal my stuff when i go to the park. and when i opened the trunk balloons flew everywhere and there was rose petals all over the trunk with two dozens of roses, chocolate arranged in a shape of a heart and in the middle was a paper folded into a heart. In the paper he wrote a poem about us and it was very sweet it made me cry. then he played “our song” and started to dance in the middle of the parking lot. he surprised me in so many ways!

This is the day I told my FI that I liked him:

We were sitting on the futon in my college dorm room. FI and I had been good friends and since the beginning of that school year, we had been hanging out more and more. It didn’t occur to me that I liked him until about two minutes before I told him. (This is rare for me to confess such things without pondering months over it in advance!)
So anyway, I turn to him and start to say “Is it bad if…” and he asks, “What?”
I stammer and ask “Is it bad if I eat too many carrots” or something stupid like that. But then I try again. “Is it bad if.. I like you?”
FI keeps the same tone of voice and says “No, of course not.”
There I am racking my brain, like.. what is this supposed to mean? I have no idea what is on his mind!! And then I go on.
I say, “Well.. because I do.”
And he says something stupid like “that’s nice.” And I am killing myself some more.
Me: “WELL DO YOU LIKE ME BACK???”
Him: “Mmhmm”
He takes my hand and I know what he wants to say.

algjkgj;kgja;ljg;gkj
The next night, he told me that he was really surprised because the night before I told him that I liked him, he had prayed to God that he would have the courage to ask me out on a date. I asked him what he was thinking, and he told me that he was wondering what he should say because at that point, he was afraid that he would ruin our friendship.

But we’re still best of friends and engaged, so everything worked out, eh?

Just before we started “officially” dating, but while we were seriously attracted to each other and talking on the phone every night, my FI did the sweetest thing ever.

I was an intern in DC and he lived in MA. I was im’ing him at work and complained that I’d forgotten my lunch box at home and my wallet to boot! The conversation progressed naturally and he somehow weaved into it a talk about where my office was actually located.

An hour later, fettucinni alfredo, side ceaser salad, and tiramisu arrived delivered to my office already paid for. He had to look up a restaurant in DC that would deliver to my office and would take credit card! When it arrived, I told them they must be mistaken and they said - nope paid for by a man in MA. I tried to borrow money to cover the man’s tip, but he’d already taken care of it on the credit card.

I’ll never forget the open mouth looks on my fellow intern’s face and my boss said - hold on to that guy! And I have!

Oh oh oh!!! My favorite memory is all about how my FI and I got together…

It was our freshman year of college and we were in the same english class. He caught my eye because he was always late coming into class. We didn’t talk in class nor did we know each other’s name. It was one fateful day that I had to stay late on campus for a group project that I was sitting outside our commons building and I see him walking past. He sees me [dare i say] smoking a cigarette and he approaches me. At the same time an avid environmentalist also approaches me and asks me for a signature of support for something… so I oblige and he asks FI. FI agrees in one condition, if I give him my number. Mr. environmentalist prods me for an answer as he whips out a cigarette himself and we all get a big laugh about not destroying the environment yet he is smoking… so we are bribed with cigarrettes for our signatures and our silence and FI and I agree. We are left alone to enjoy the spoils of the day and numbers and names are exchanged…

… 5 years later we are getting hitched and who do we have to thank for it? bA chain smoking environmentalist– if we could only find him =)

my story isn’t really a moment shared with us, but something i find amusing, random, and silly nonetheless. a friend of his told me this story later:

apparently, before we started dating, and before i even knew he was interested in me, he and his friends had made a bet. unbeknownst to me, another of his friends (F) was dared to ask me out on a date. this friend then told everyone that he thought that my boyfriend (BF) had eyes for me so the guys made a bet out of it. they were to play a basketball game against each other. the LOSER had to ask me out on the date. Yes, I was the prize for the LOSER! Apparently, F played his heart out, completely breaking out a sweat, and BF gave no effort and completely threw the game. His friend later told me how it was obvious to everyone how he felt about me after that game… and that his “attempt” at bball was embarressing at best.

That ensued a 2 month long plan to encourage BF (he’s shy) to ask me on a date. A few months later, we were a couple, and I’ve been happier than I’ve ever been in my life! That is one time I don’t mind being treated as a prize… for the loser that is. :)

my favorite memory is when my fiance left for our first summer apart (we lived on campus but lived a state apart during the summers). i was devastated. a week later i went on vacation to new york and got a call while visiting an aunt, telling me that he had been lost for 6 hours on long island, trying to track down my grandpa’s home. he had flown from georgia because he had missed me too much. i only saw him for a few hours that night, but he says it was definately worth it.

I have a lot of favorite memories..but one of my fondest was his proposal. My FI is one of the most un-romantic guys on the planet.. to him, trying hard and being romantic means getting me chocolate for V-day , to say the least.. he’s never even given me a card… and he ALWAYS waits till last minute so he stands in the GODIVA line for hours at the mall on V-day.

For his proposal- he spent weeks(WEEKS!), making a power point slide presentation. On the day of, i was putting laundry away, and when I came out to the living room, he had cleared ALL the furniture(sofa included!) away, and there was a single chair in the middle of the living room. He made me sit down and look toward the tv…which had a big ? on it. The presentation started with a piano background music and the presentation started with him being a child..to him growing up now and had little messages like “i wish i was still this cute..” and his grown up picture said “but im not, and you”re stuck with me…sorry!!” …and goes to couple pics of me and him together…through the good times and bad times… and had messages such as “remember how much you cried this day?” and “remember our first zoo trip together?” and then there was a letter on the screen.. of his hopes, dreams and wishes for the future for us..and explains that his journey through life (hence the childhood pics and dating pics) was ultimately to meet me, love me..and spend the rest of his life with me. –and at the end of the letter were the words “will you” and he came up frim behind me, got down on one knee and popped the question wit a gorgeous e-ring. ^^ boy.. i cried like a baby~~!!

Definitely the proposal. I knew Mark wanted to get married on July 7, 2007, so when he asked me out on a date for October 7 two months in advance I was sure he was going to propose. I asked if he was going to and he said I always spoil surprises. I was upset, because a proposal should be a surprise, but nonetheless went out and bought a new outfit for the occasion. Little did I know Mark had planned this date to throw me off. While camping in Yosemite with my sister and brother-in-law we decided to go up to Glacier Point to see the view and take some pictures. We had taken about a million pictures and I was ready to leave, but Mark wanted a few more with half Dome between us. We faced Half Dome and then each other and before I knew it he was down on one knee. I heard him say something like “Brookie wookie, I have enjoyed the past 10 months getting to know you and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” It took a minute to realize what he was doing. He caught me completely by surprise! I started crying and he had to ask me for my answer. And the answer was- YES! Mark’s proposal far exceeded anything I had hoped or dreamed for. I told him early on in our relationship that I wanted pictures of my proposal (not a re-enactment) and we have not only that but video. I am so excited to spend the rest of my life married to my best friend! I love you with all of my heart, Markmellow!

My favorite memory is when we just started going out.

I always had bad cramps during my periods and going into college made everything worse. One evening I was having pretty bad cramps but my boyfriend & I had plans so we got ready to leave. After walking outside for about 5 minutes. My stomach hurt so bad that I had to lay down on the ground. I couldn’t move, I was sweating and basically dying in pain! So my boyfriend picked me up and piggy backed me back to the dorms. He ran really fast, and when we waited for the elevators he even managed to get some water for me. Then he changed me, tucked me into bed, fed me my meds and just let me rest for the rest of the night. The best part is, he talked on the phone with my MOM and explained what happened! First of all he had to talk to my mom, and second of all he had to talk about periods.

My favorite memory of me and my sweetie would have to be our second Christmas together. He had bought me a beautiful necklace and was so excited to give it to me. He let me open it and then took it out of the box and placed it on my neck, and then started whispering pretty things in my ear. I love him!

My favorite memory is from when we had only been seeing each other for about a month or so. The remnants of a hurricane had swept through the DC area on a Thursday night. There was barely any damage, but it did cause a lot of power outages. We lived in the same neighborhood, and both of us had lost power at our apartments. I went over to his place to hang out that first night, and the next day, we went and found a Starbucks that was open and had power. He set up his laptop and did some work; I bought a newspaper and read. It slowly dawned on me that even though we had only been dating casually for a month, it felt so comfortable and easy to just sit there next to him. That was when I first realized that he was really something special! I told him about that day’s epiphany when we said our first “I love you”s a few months afterwards, and he said that he had been sitting there thinking the same thing :-)

My favorite memory is the first time my fiance and I said “I love you.” We had gone down to Florida for a mini vacation and we were cuddled on the couch one night watching a movie. He leaned in and whispered “I love you” - it of course made me soar! When I said “I love you” back - his look - a combination of joy and relief was priceless…his response - “I love you SO much, I’ve wanted to say this for a while now.” It was such a sweet moment.

It was a toss between how we met and how he proposed, so I chose how we met because it seemed like fate.

The Summarized Story:
Purple skies, drizzles, an innocent raindrop, and a lucky 8 ball sealed the deal for two beating hearts. I said hi, and he said hi. Everything after was the beginning of another beginning.

The Elaborated Story:
On August 2005, it was a drizzly, gloomy day. I had planned to go on my annual white water rafting trip, but it was cancelled at the last minute. So, I decided to go on to plan B, the photo safari hike in DC with my friend. He was planning another night home playing video games or watching TV. So, he became bored and figured why not check out that event, the photo safari hike in DC. Was this fate? Well, let’s see.

Fast-forwarding to the photo hike. Around Iwo Jima Memorial, I noticed he was “amusingly clumsy”, and he noticed I was “kinda cute”. (He told me later.) Everyone started to gather under the Netherland Carrillon Bell Tower. There I stood gazing into the purple horizon at the nation’s Capitol and the National Monument. ¢¢â€š¬…”It’s so mesmerizing¢¢â€š¬¦a perfect date spot.¢¢â€š¬? I said to my friend. Suddenly out of no where, a raindrop fell onto my head. I rubbed my scalp of the raindrop. Little did I know, he was noticing my every move and words from afar underneath the bell tower. He took this chance and made his leading line, “You know, it’s drier if you stand under here…” I hesitated, but eventually scooted over next to him. And, sparks started to fly. The night ended with a challenge to an amateur, yet flirtatious, game of pool. Luck was on his side since he won the challenge with the lucky shot of the lucky 8 ball. His prize: my phone number and a dinner date.
It was fate.

We remained inseparable since… *tears* He proposed six months later. *more tears* =)

IT’s hard to pick just one, there are so many moments that we have shared all these years that I love. But one that stands out it my head was probably one of the toughest days of my life. It was my sophmore year in college and I was with my roommate in my dorm room. I had just received a call from my dad telling me that my grandmother had passed away. My grandmother raised me so it hit me really hard. I kinda fell apart and when my fiance came over (we went to the same college and he lived across the way) he just lied down next to me, held me and cried with me. No words were exchanged we just laid together in my tiny dorm bed the whole night. The day of the funeral he drove me down to the city from albany and he was just so supportive. This was during midterm week and he was willing to drop everything to be with me and take care of me. Thinking of that day makes me sad but it also reminds me how wonderful he is.

My favorite memory…one Christmas he didn’t have much money to go out to spend on presents….and he knew my favorite cookies were Madelines…soooooooo with what he had at home (in terms of ingredients), he went out and bought the cookie mold and for my Christmas present from him, he presented me with a plate of Madeline cookies…I was so touched that I will never forget that.

I really love making my FI blush. But there’s only one time I’ve make him gape like a fish and become completely bereft of words.
Background: we were long distance; he was in his last year of undergrad in GA, and I was in my first year of grad school in NJ. We meticulously planned out our schedules for one of us to fly to the other every 3rd or 4th week. The month before his spring break was one of the 4-week times.
FI loved theatre and dance (latin dance esp.) and was in a dance concert the weekend before his spring break. He *really* wanted me to come, as no one in his family had been to a college performance of his (they all live far away). I told him I would love to, but he was already flying to me the next weekend, and I had so much work that I couldn’t. He was sad, but understood. So I bought a ticket and arranged with his friend T to pick me up at the airport and drive me to the show. My plan was to arrive by the end of the concert and bring FI flowers on stage. Unfortunately, my flight was delayed. So delayed that I missed the show. T called him and did some amazing lying, saying he was so distressed and had to talk to FI and where could he find him? We arrived at the cast party while I was on the phone with FI, who was a little annoyed that I wasn’t more worried about T. I asked him to go outside, saying that the party was too loud, and told him I was so sorry I had missed the show. He said it would be perfect if only I were there, and then he looked up and saw me walking down the sidewalk. He was speechless for a good five minutes (accompanied by the fish gaping face) and could only hug me and bury his face in my shoulder.
I still think it’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever done.

My guy doesnt easily shed tears… but he did as he gave his speech of how he knew i was the one at the wedding reception. The week before he shared what he was going to say at the wedding and it a very nice lovely funny story, and even tho he told me the story and i heard it before… the day of the wedding he got all choked up and teary eyed that he even made me cry hearing it all over again. Its funny when big macho guys make that weird screechy voice when they are trying to hold back the tears… haha… :)
