Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Shoe Ideas?

February 16th, 2007 @ 2:26 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

With all the talk of shoes for the wedding day, I’ve really been searching. I’ve been to Steve Madden, Zappos, Nordys, Macys and tons of other places. What I’m looking for is a wedge. Cork bottomed or wooden, espadrille or not, I really am not too picky. I figure that my dress will be perfectly long, and I don’t really think it will matter what kind of bottoms are on the shoes.

I’m thinking an ivory or gold color would be perfect, but man, they are hard to find! The height would be about four inches, more if the heel is also a platform. Being only five feet tall, I’ve been stomping around in super high shoes for years. Sometimes I’m more comfortable in heels than I am sneakers, but that may be because the rubber sole makes me trip.

What do you think of this one ($79.95 from Steve Madden- 4 Inch heels)?

I kind of like the fact that they’re not totally fancy, and I LOVE Steve Madden!

Then there are these other Steve Madden shoes (4.25 Inch Heel $89.95)

I’m sure most of you guys are appalled at my idea for a wedding shoe. :) I dunno, I love wedges because they are so comfortable and I’d rather be comfy than have my feet look great! What do you think?

The ones above kind of make me think comfort, but retirement in Boca Raton, Florida! Maybe it’s the gold lame!

I actually like this one, but the shoe just makes me think “Showgirl.” (Steve Madden, $89.95, 4.25 inch heel)

Then again, there are these Carlo Fellini shoes, oddly called Casablanca (my dress maker) that I found on www.perfectdetails.com. They are available in white and ivory, and are a 3.5 inch heel. ($110.00). The beading almost matches the detail on my gown. Hm…

Depending on what style your dress is, I think you can totally rock some awesome wedges and make it look great! Personally, though, I wouldn’t wear any with a cork bottom because to me that looks more casual…

I actually have some really cute white wedges I got at Payless last summer–they have a stacked heel and a crossover ankle strap…too cute!

I’ll post a pic if I can find one.

Well I say if you REALLY want a wedge, I would get the first one, but I like the very last picture the best.

I vote for either the first or last picture.

Cork and weddings do not mix in my book, unless the cork is for wine or champagne, but to each her own. Personally, I think you can do better. ssinca posted some great gold Stuart Weitzman wedges on the L.A. and OC knot boards recently. Fabu. It proves it can be done.

I just got 3″ wedges for my dress from mika inatome http://www.mikainatome.com They are the celine style. I know they are a tad expensive, but i have to say they are the mosy COMFORTABLE shoes I’ve ever worn!!! They also arrive in the most fabulous packaging.

Hey everyone, thanks for your honest responses! While cork may not be “bridal”, (and I totally know what you’re all talking about), I think cork is very light, and really comfortable. And seriously, who is going to see my feet? I’m concerned more with height, and comfort than I am glamour. Although, I won’t be going for the obvious stripper shoes of 5+ inches on lucite heels! Oh, and I’m also needing shoes with a fair price, as much as I wish I could get Stuart Weitzman shoes, I can’t afford it- I’m already spending more for the dress than I had budgeted for! Damn me!

Thank you all for your comments and links! I will check them all out right now.

you might consider gold slingbacks like these for your wedding….

the price isn’t all THAT bad, though they’re not bargain basement either. martha stewart regularly features blue tux shoes in her magazine, and i just ordered a different pair….

good luck!

Some of the wedges look sort of “clunky”, som make sure you don’t get anything that’s like, platform. Wedding shoes shouldn’t have a disco theme. :)

I love the last ones!! But if you wanted to go for something more casual (since you prefer wedges) I really like the first one also. In my opinion, the 2nd & 3rd ones don’t look wedding appropriate.

I (like everyone else) love the last ones. I agree about wedges being really comfy though, and am jealous that you can pull off 4″ wedges (I am 5′7 and my fiance is only 5′10, and he would not be happy if I appeared taller than him!). As far as the wedges, I like the first ones the best — I feel like there is a better opportunity to trip if in a giant 4.25 inch wedge thong when walking in a floor-length dress… but maybe that is just me and you are significantly more coordinated.
You should definitely pick shoes that YOU are comfortable in though, regardless of what the rest of us suggest — if you like cork wedges better than the more traditional wedding shoe, go for it! It can definitely be a unique aspect for the wedding. :)

definitely the last one. it’s very pretty and would look perfect under a wedding gown. all the other ones look a bit too casual, something you’d wear with jeans on any given day.

You should wear what makes you feel comfortable; if that means cork wedges, so be it!

I like these options:

Zappos will let you sort by heel type (e.g. wedge or kitten), heel height, and color.

Okay, let me be the rebel here and say that I love the wedge idea (I love espadrilles!) Especially if you have a long dress - honestly, who really is going to pay attention to your shoes but you and the closest to you (and the photographer)? Comfort is key! :D I’m 5ft too so I know how it feels.

With that, I love the first shoe - very vintage-y which I love.

I’m a wedding photographer so I see a lot of wedding shoes - and I had a bride wear espadrilles and I just loved them! She wore “nice heels” for photos, but immediately switched to the wedges for everything else. I don’t think anyone else noticed.

oh no, i agree with comment above. The last one is the best, those wedges are just too casual. They don’t even allow wedges at some workplaces so it’s probably not the best shoe for a wedding.
